vPC peering between L2 mode and L2/L3 mode in N5672

Hi Experts,

I'm trying to migrate N5k network including dual homed fex. In our plan during the migration processes, one of L2/L3 N5k with vPC will separate L3 functions to other router or L3SW. Therefore, N5k pair will temporarily run L2/L3 mode and L2 mode each other in vPC.

I would like to know what type of issues we are able to predict in this irregular configuration.

Thanks,

This topology looks non standard. The features/functionality between VPC peers should match else you will have traffic loss. From the diagram it looks like you have L2/l3 5k on one side and L2 5k on the other which should not be the case. Reference these docs for L3 design recomendations-

https://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/mkt_ops_guides/513_n1_1/n5k_L3_w_vpc_5500platform.html  (This is for 55xx but should apply for 5600 as swell)

Thanks,

Raj

Temporary Loss of connectivity is the most common general outcome but that should be pretty obvious so may not be what you maybe looking for on this forum. If there is a specific design and plan that can be shared on a public forum then maybe I can provide additional feedback.

Hi Raj,

Thanks for your reply.

Show you the topology with the attachment. Anomaly vPC peer consist of L2/L3 mode n5k and L2 mode n5k. And, L3 routing on L2 side is processed by the corner router which is running hsrp correlation between L2/L3 n5k. As our test results, packets have intermittently lost on L2/L3 side so far. When I can configure appropriate configuration, is this distorted topology works good or not?

Thanks, Raj. I could verify that this is unsupported topology. It's fairly enough.
