Can you connect a SA520W to a RV082?

                   I wanted to know if you can connect a Cable modem to a SA520W, then connect a RV082 to the SA520W?

Hi Joseph, you may do this in several ways.

• Configure the RV082 on a different LAN subnet then have the SA520 service DHCP to the RV082 WAN port (not recommended, this is DOUBLE-NAT
• Configure the RV082 on the same LAN subnet, disable the DHCP server on the RV082 then connect from lan port of SA520 to lan port of RV082 (this is an okay implementation, using the RV082 as a switch)
• Set up a DMZ on the SA520 then connect the RV082 in to the DMZ of the SA520 (depends if you want outside access to the unit subject to only the RV082 firewall)

Thanks for the feed back. I have another question. Can you have a RV082 connect to a Cisco e2500 wireless device?

Joseph, any device can pretty much connect to any other device. It just depends how you want to use them. The thing most people forget or do not know, such products are not like IOS routers in the sense there are designated interfaces for particular functions and that can't really change.

If your intention is to use the E2500 router as an access point then the way to do this would be-

Configure the RV082 on the same LAN subnet with the E2500. Disable the DHCP server on the E2500 then make an ethernet port to ethernet port connection.

Configurations and set ups like this, although work and can be very cost effective, if something goes wrong, something goes very wrong. It is always best to use appropriate equipment. Wireless access point if you need wireless coveage. A switch if you need extra ports, etc.

The solution I am looking to do is Connect a Comcast broadband Cable modem to the RV082 and then connect the e2500 to the RV082.

I would connect the RV082 WAN port to the Broadband cable modem WAN port. Then I would connect the RV082 via the LAN port to the e2500 LAN port. That should work. I would have to disable DHCP on the e2500. I get the VPN via the RV082. This scenario should work?
