certificate errors

Hi,

A client of us is working with a Cisco RV130W. they have two Apple Macbooks(OS X Sierra). multiple times a day it is not possible for them to sent email from outlook. they have 2 mailaccounts on the macbooks(Hotmail and Office365). the error that they get is: could not connect to this exchange server. check your connection and that you entered the correct information in the account preference. also verify that the server supports SSL. if it does not, deselect the "use SSL" checkbox in the advanced tab of account preference. see attachment for the error.

Also they are getting certificate errors when they want to search for a website.

when they are working at home there is no problem. the error does not pop up and there is no certificate error.

we did some tests like:

- change DNS to OpenDNS(208.67.222.222 and 208.68.220.220)

- updated the firmware to the latest version 1.0.3.22

- factory reset

- change the router with a new RV130W( same problem)

- change the router with a Cisco Linksys E4200

the problem was solved when we change the router with the Linksys E4200.

what could possible causes this problem?

Greeting,

Ward

Enabling QoS bandwidth management generally fixes this problem, just make sure you set the correct upload / download rates for your connection otherwise QoS will restrict your rates to the defaults values.  It does restrict the top speed of the WAN routing, but you won't notice it unless your ISP is delivering over 120Mb or so.

Also check out this thread (https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12485071/ssl-certificate-errors-websites-using-cisco-rv130-router) and update to the latest r28 firmware if you are using the wifi, as it vastly improves performance and stability when wifi is in use.

Thanks for your reply.

The link is familiar to me. They are not using wifi and the QoS was already enabled. it is restricted to 100Mb.

we also did set up the MTU to 1380 but no luck.

the problem is still there.
