rv042 quick vpn does not disconnect

Hi, there

we bought a router for our company RV042, so far good

What i did:

1. i created QuickVPN clients, droped in certificate which exported from router

******NOTE********All company's laptops are running: Windows 7pro 32bits****************

The users are connecting sucesefully to router and using resources from server etc...

But, when they press disconect on quickVPN it shows disconected, but when i log in into router, i still see that they are connected (not disconnecting),

and the problem is they cannot connect to router second time if i don't manually disconect them from rv042 router....

Only sometimes the clients disconnect properly from router, but it is very very rare...

Question1:

So can anybody point me please where is should look for the problem in router rv042 or client laptops?

Question2:

does the 64bit windows7 pro OS can conect to RV042router?

P.s. i have latest quickvpn software and latest router firmware.

Mr. Liepins,

Try Reflashing the firmware on the router and manually reconfigure the device.

Typically this router don't have issues with vpn clients disconnecting or receiving the disconnect from the client when they are ending the session.

As far as 64 bit, the quickvpn utility works with it as well.

Ok, thanks for the tip, will reflash router this weekend and try again.

Looks like i' am the only one who has problems with quick vpn.

You are not alone

This happens to me all the time.

The only way to get back in after an unsuccessful disconnect is to disable and enabe the network card on the client.

You have to disconnect and connect back to the internet.

Don't ask me why.

Even disconnecting the client from the router does not work.

The client is shown as "offline" in the vpn summary but the client cannot reconnect.

All client users are aware of this workaround and it is not really a problem any more.

btw, what is "reflashing the router" ?

Is that reloading the firmware ?

btw, the failed disconnect is intermittent.

When I test I can connect and disconnect 10 times without any problem and the 11th attempt fails.

Hi,

yes reflashing means reloading firmware corespondig to your hardware version...

I solved all my problems quickly I had 2 RV042 routers with hardware version 1.2 and I gave them back demanding with hardware version v3 because for 2 weeks both routers work like a charm.

I would suggest you to do the same thing, btw, give them back and say that they did not work already from factory...

It was a big headache for 4months with these "magic" routers.

I live in Indonesia and replacing things is almost impossible here.

Sold is sold.

I just bought another one as a backup but also a blue and grey one.

So now I have 2 duds.

As you say, struggling with these things drives you nuts.

I started working in IT in 1973 and I am still technical and I never give up.

But this is bad.

Funny too that you had to struggle so long to find the answer.

When you Google RV042 problems you see a myraid of solutions.

But nothing really works.

We are all just wasting our time because Linksys can't say that this version of the RV042 is bad.

All you get is soothing messages like "put the router in remote admin mode".

How can that solve anything.

I am going to draw a big fat line under this and buy something else.

I managed to get the RV042 HW version 3 (Black front, blue user interface)

It is definitely better.

The only problem I still have is that 2 users who use the same wireless router can only log into the vpn one at a time.

Did anyone else experience this ?

Hi again Johan!

I'm glad that you got Hardware version 3. As i said it works as it should.

Please explain your problem more specific...

Maybe someone else knows answer, i haven't this problem because my users are connecting each from their homes so can't tell is it working or not from one network.

And what error you got when second user is trying to connect?

Logs can be found in:

%C%:\Program Files\Cisco Small Business\QuickVPN Client in txt files, wget_error.txt and wget_stop_error.txt.

Simply post logs from second user when it's trying to connect.

Hi Elvijs

I have posted the details under a new discussion:

https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2094102?tstart=0

I will add the log details there

Thanks

Johan

It has been a while

I have installed a RV042 in the apartment of my friends and they now can both connect to my RV042.

Problem solved.

But now I have a new opportunity.

Now these people cannot connect to a Cisco vpn used in the office where we work.

Everything works (browsing, ftp, telnet) but not the vpn connection.

They now connect through my RV042 using remote desktop which is ok as an interim measure but not as a permanent one.

I have tried everything I could think of but I cannot get a pn connection.

The vpn client is Cisco Systems VPN Client Version 5.0.07.0290.

A colleague who uses the same ISP has no problem connecting to the office vpn
