RV220W - Forwarded FTP traffic causes huge ping increase

Hi,

I configured our new business router to forward all FTP traffic to our local FTP server using IPv4 Firewall Rules under Firewall -> Access Control.

It's setup like this:

Firewall settings.png

When we run a ping to google.com, the usual ping is around 30-50ms. Whenever we start a download from our FTP server, the ping almost immediately increases to 500+ ms and as soon as we stop the transfer it drops back down right away. The transfer speed is around 250 kB/s, which is what it always was.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

you probably just have a bandwith issue. Check your upload speed limit with your ISP and if you top it while you are uploading to the FTP client then you need to set a speed limit on your FTP server.

My connection is limited to 240 KB/s(upload) so I set my upload speed limit @ 120 KB/s on my FTP server. I still have more than enough for sending emails/surfing and pinging .
