Small Business Routers with Inter-VLAN capability

A newbie here. I was looking for a small business router that has VPN support and dual WAN support for load balancing. Upon reading reviews, I think RV042/RV042G is a good choice. Now am thinking if it supports intervlan/ router-on-a-stick configuration? Sorry if it seems a stupid question, a response is highly appreciated.

In addtion, are there other routers that supports all (VPN, dual WAN, and inter-vlan)?

RV042G supports port-based VLAN, where ports mapped to different VLANs are isolated from each other.

This is probably not what you need.

Without configuring VLANs, RV042G supports multiple IP subnets on the LAN side. Access rules (up to 50 rules) can be used to allow or deny inter-subnet packets.

Thanks for the reply. So I just need to use access rules for different VLANs to communicate with each other.

What about this scenario: an SX200 switch connected to a RV042G  port, and VLANs are created on the switch. Is it possible for different VLANs created on the switch to communicate to each other? From what I know, subinterfaces are needed on the router for VLANs on the switch to communicate (router on a stick). Thanks.

hi Te-Kai Liu,

i have a question regarding multiple subnets

     currently my rv 042 has 2 addresses;

          192.168.18.1 - device address

          172.16.18.1 - subnet 1

     i can access all 192.168.18.1 resources when connected to the VPN, however i cant access 172.16.18.1.

     sure 192.168.18.1 can reach 172.16.18.1 and vice versa

     i created access rules,  allow any source from WAN1/LAN to 172.16.118.1 ~ 172.16.118.255

     is it really possible for vpn user able to reach multiple subnets?

corection on access rules, subnet .18 not .118

allow any source from WAN1/LAN to 172.16.18.1 ~ 172.16.18.255
