SRP527W-U and Huawei E173 usb 3G stick

Hi

we recently buoght an Huawuei E173 usb 3G stick from the italian TRE mobile company.

The stick is working fine when connected to a PC but it is not detected when connected to our SRP.

We have the latest firmware 1.2.5 (001) Nov 8 2012 and the updated documentation

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/unified_communications/srp540_series/modem_comp_matrix/srp520U_540_comp_matrix.pdf

confirm the compatibility with this stick.

When connected the USB led of the SRP flashes green, the led on the stick flashes green but the stick itself isn't detected.

Does anyone know how we can try to resolve this?

Thanks

Dario Ghiringhelli

Hi Dario, the USB is for fail over connection only. If the USB LED has a fast flash it is unsupported (we know this one is supported). If solid green, it is working normally.

Disconnect your USB dongle. Remove your normal internet connection. Reconnect the dongle. See if this works.

Hi Tom,

thanks for your answer.

I tried your suggest but, when I insert the dongle the USB LED fast flashes greeen, about two times per second.

I waited for some minutes but nothing happened. Under Interface Setup / Mobile Network of the WEB configuration Utility I see that the card status is always Detecting ...

It happens as if the E173 is unsupported.

Hi Dario, is it possible to reflash firmware and reset the SRP?

Current firmware is the 1.2.5 like you originally wrote

http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=284181768&softwareid=282919993&release=SRP520-U%201.2.5&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest

Do you by chance have a second dongle around you can test to see if it is a possible hardware problem?

Hi Tom,

I tried to reload the latest firmware. Upon restart, I manually switch off the SRP and then on. I also tried to reset the srp by pressing the reset button on the left side of the SRP, but the issue is still there.

Unfortunately I haven't another dongle, but I can assure you that it is working fine under Windows.

Here is the screenshot of the router status:

Model:SRP527W, ADSL2+ AnnexA, 802.11n ETSI, 2FXS/1FXO
Version ID:V01
Hardware Version:4.1.0
Boot Version:1.1.22 (Feb 22 2011 - 09:42:55)
Firmware Version:1.2.5 (001) Nov 8 2012
ADSL Firmware Version:1.01.6
Recovery Firmware:1.2.5 (000)
WAN MAC Address:20:37:06:3B:97:9C
Current Time:Wed, 13 Feb 2013 14:06:48
Wireless:1 SSID Enabled

I noticed that a label on the dongle report a HUAWEY E173 model while on the external box is written HUAWEY E173 EVO. Is there any difference between the two models ?

Thanks again.

Dario

Any other suggestions?

I just have to contact support?

Hi Dario, I'm not sure there is too much more to talk about. I do not know if there is a technical difference for Huawei E173 Evo vs a non-EVO dongle. When trying to compare them on Google there isn't anything really distinctive, that would be a question for the manufacturer.

I would assume the technical answer is the EVO is "unsupported" simply because the compatability sheet does not have EVO within the product description.

The only thing I could recommend is to locate a non-EVO E173 dongle and try it. If it works, we know the EVO is unsupported hardware.

Otherwise, you should contact the technical support and they can find this answer for you.
