SRP546W - DHCP Problem with ADSL PVC

Hello,

since a few years I am using my service providers IPTV offer. I used it with a AVM Fritzbox. A few days ago I bought a Cisco SRP 546W to replace the Fritzbox.

My ISP uses two PVC, PVC0 (1/32) for regular internet traffic, PVC1 (1/34) for the IPTV stream.

So I configured PVC0 as PPPOE and PVC1 as bridged 1483 connection. After that I get a IP address on both PVCs. Regular Internet Access work fine.

LAN Port 2-4 are assigned to Desktop VLAN.1 and Voice VLAN.100.

To access my IPTV STB I added a new VLAN with ID 10 and assigned LAN Port 1 to this VLAN. I connected my STB with LAN Port 1.

After assigning PVC1 to this VLAN 10, it lost the connection die the IPTV network. In "Internet Setup" I only see IP connection information on PVC0.

PVC 1 status changed from Bridged 1483 to Bridge only. IPTV does not work.

To troubleshoot I analyse the connection on my Fritzbox. After starting my STB, it sends a DHCP request and gets an answer from the DHCP server in the IPTV network.

On my Cisco SRP the STB sends the DHCP request too but do not get a answer.

After removing PVC1 from VLAN 10 it gets the IPTV networks IP address again.

I think the problem is that PVC1 looses the connection to the IPTV network after being added to the VLAN so the DHCP request can not be answered.

May someone give me a hint how I can solve this problem?

I thank you a lot.

Thomas

Is here no specialist who can help me solving the problem? Or do I have to explain something better? Please support me, otherwise I have to send back my Cisco Router :(

Hi Thomas,

Try the following.

Create the IPTV PVC (1/34) and use 1483 encapsulation

Create the IPTV VLAN and add the STB LAN port and PVC1 to it.  Ensure than Role is set to LAN and that the VLAN address is set to none.  Also make sure that you removed the LAN port from the other VLANs and that your IPTV VLAN is now the PVID for the STB port (which it will be if it is the only VLAN associated with the port).

This should ensure that there is a common broadcast domain between the STB and the TV service and that the IP address is assigned to the STB and not "stolen" by the router (assuming that the SP sets one address per PVC).

If this doesn't work, try also creating a NAT Bypass rule for your STB port and PVC1.

Andy

Hi Andy,

I created a PVC 1/34 with RFC 1483 bridged EoA. I created a VLAN (ID10) and added the STB LAN Port and the PVC1 to this VLAN. The LAN Port is only member of this VLAN.

Then I configured Role to LAN and IP Address type to None.

I configured a NAT Bypass rule

Inside Interface : VLAN.10

I did not fill the IP Address and Mask fields

Outside Interface: PCV1

I did not fill the IPAddress and mask fields

I tried this configuration. It does not work.

Which information do you need now?

Thanks a lot.

Best regards

Thomas

Hi,

I made a TCP Dump and opened it in Wireshark.

The STB sends DHCP Requests but do not get any reply. That I saw on VLAN.10

Then I traced PVC1 and did not get any paket.

So my STBs DHCP Request do not reach the PVC to be routet to my ISP. And if the STB do not get a IP it will not work.

How can I solve this error?

Thanks a lot.

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

As a confirmation of the case you had open with the support team, I just wanted to let the community know that this issue was caused by a defect in the current firmware release.

This has been fixed and will be available in the next maintenance release.

Regards,

Andy
