Hi,

Claudiu,

I have the same problem. My ISP is RDS – Romania too.

Did you manage to solve the problem?

Best regards,

Ilie

Hi Dave,

I am sorry for my late reply but i was out of my country for a while. What i did so far: I connected a small 8 port switch to my provider, on the same switch i connected my PC and the Cisco router, I configured the router for PPPOE and i started Wireshark on my PC. Please find attached screenshot of the WAN port of the router and Wireshark capture. I hope this will help solving the issue. Please let me know if you will need more info. Thanks again!

Hello Dave,

Any news with regards to our case? Thank you!

Hello,

Can we get any reply from Cisco please? Thank you!

Hi All,

I have an similar problem.

I have static IP but I need PPPoE connection with username and password.

Router Cisco Linksys WRVS4400Nv2 with firmware 2.0.0.8-ETSI, CPU STAR 9202, DRAM 64MB, FLASH 16MB.

My connection is ADSL 10Mbps/768kbps and ISP (Slovenia - SiOL) need PPPoE connection.

Modem is Sagem Fast 3344, Bridged, DHCP disabled, Firewall Disabled, Ethernet Status Automatic Speed Auto DUPLEX.

Please help me with this router connection.

Thanks.

Well  i can see that the interaction with your Service providers Access Concentrator is not working.

Wireshark captures valid PPPoE packets form my router,  with ZERO response from the Service provider.

Can't even tell the Service providers Access Concentrators service name..

I must also admit I cannot make out any packets coming in from the service providers network. My packets look good, i think that the problem is more link related.

It's probably like the log capture in the last posting , it could not  find a end point.

I'm guessing we could be looking at the fact that this router just can't get a physical connection with the Service providers (SP) ethernet interface the router is hooked into.  Again , my question in the trace is why are we not getting a response from the service provider.  We are sending out PPPoE PADI's so we think the link is ok, but getting no response.  the problem could be simply resolved or the router just doesn't want to work with the ethernet interface it is hooked into. could be interesting to see what happens if a unmanaged switch is plugged in between the SP interface and the router.

Software , i guess, low level drivers within the WRVS4400N,  could be the cause of this issue and it may only be evident with Access Concentrator equipment used by your SP,  but why not  have a chat to the local folks at your SBSC via the following URL;

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/support/tsd_cisco_small_business_support_center_contacts.html

Hi David,

I tell with my ISP and they tell me that they make the settings for this router.

But for me not work, is the same, router not connect and the log is the same.

In a few day I tray with an switch betwin the modem and the router.

I not have anyone to tell becouse I not found any forum in Slovenia.

I need any support in Slovenia, anyone know who have the official support?

Hi guys,

is there a solution already?

Because I have exactly the same problem with my ISP (Inode xDSL in Vienna). And PPPoE does work with my old router Linksys WRT54GL as well. (Checked my firmware and it's the same like the one on the routers of the other guys here.)

Dear Dave/Cisco,

I face the same problem Vladimir described above.

Router model is WRVS4400Nv1, Firmware version is 1.1.13.

Please suggest a solution. Does Cisco plan on releasing an updated firmware that corrects the issue as of today, September 30th, 2013?

Regards,

Hey David,

If the problem was link related, than why the only router that cannot connect is the WRVS4400N. Personally I tried with 3 different routers and they was able to connect immediately. Thanks!

Hello all,

Has anyone managed to get this working on a regular basis ? For me it works most of the times but there are hours and sometimes days when it does not. Right now it's one of those moments...

Once I will get it up and running again, I will post a log.

Anyone from Cisco care to comment?

This is not a cheap router - at present it is useless to me with its PPPoE functionality unavailable!

Thank you.

This is a very old post, but would like to follow up.

The logs shown in this thread clearly display that we are not receiving PPoE information to create the link. There are some inconstancies in the information being posted. If we are to find an answer we need these questions resolved.

  1. When WRSV router is connected and WAN configuration is set to DHCP do you receive an IP address? (on the router WAN interface)
  2. If so, what is it and have you tried to connect to the internet?

Previously it has been posted that an IP address was indeed being received by the router or by computer if connected in place of WRSV. If this is the case, then a clear topology should be posted as there are other devices on the WAN side of the WRSV which may be causing problems. In order to give a detailed answer more detail needs to be provided.
