Recent updates to the SPA525G IP phone firmware allow the device to enable viewing of video from PVC2300 or WVC2300 IP cameras. The following document details how to configure this integration between the camera and the phone when the SPA525G is running in SPCP (UC500) or SIP mode. Future enhancements to the Cisco Configuration Assistant will include a Video Setup Wizard that will streamline the configuration of this feature in an SBCS environment.

Basic Considerations

This document assumes that the following prerequisites have been met:

1) IP connectivity exists between the PVC2300/WVC2300 IP Camera and the SPA525G phone(s).

2) The SPA525G phone is configured and operational for SPCP or SIP Call control.

Alternatively, both the IP Phone and the IP camera (WVC2300 model only) can be operating in Wi-Fi mode.

Upgrading and Configuring the PVC2300/WVC2300 IP Camera

Upgrading the Camera Firmware

It is necessary to update the camera firmware to the latest release in order to take advantage of the most recent product enhancements. Follow these steps to upgrade the camera:

1) Download the latest firmware from the following specified in the table above.

2) Connect your camera to a DHCP-enabled network and write down the IP address that gets assigned to the video camera. You can get this information from your DHCP server or, if using CCA, by right-clicking on the Camera icon on the Topology View and accessing the Camera's configuration utility.

Note: It is recommended that you use a static IP instead of a DHCP IP, in order to avoid service interruption should the IP address change.

3) Open a browser to the camera IP address and enter the authentication credentials (defaults are username admin and password admin).

Note: When using Internet Explorer (IE), certain ActiveX controls are enabled that allow additional functionality and control from the browser, like full duplex audio communications between the PC and the camera. However, IE is not necessary for integration with the SPA525G phone.

4) Click on the Setup tab and navigate to Administration >> Firmware. Browse to the directory where you placed the new software image, select the file and click Upgrade. The update process will take 5 minutes and MUST NOT BE INTERRUPTED. If the upgrade process fails, or is interrupted, please refer to the Camera Administration Guide for the recovery procedure available on:

5) Wait for the camera to complete the process and reboot. Proceed to the next step when done.

Configuring the PVC2300/WVC2300 Video Settings

It is necessary to change the MJPEG video settings to the format required for the SPA525G integration. Open the Audio/Video tab and click on Video. Configure the Video Settings as specified below and save your configuration when done:

SIP Mode

It is necessary to also update the phone firmware to the latest release in order to take advantage of the most recent product enhancements. Follow these steps to upgrade the phone:

1) Download the latest phone firmware using the link from the table above.

2) Connect your phone to a DHCP-enabled network and write down the IP address that gets assigned to it. Obtain this information from your DHCP server.

3) Ensure that the phone is running in SIP mode by pressing the Settings button on the keypad and Navigating to Device Administration >> Call Control Settings >> Signaling Protocol.

4) Open a browser to the phone IP address and navigate to Firmware Upgrade. Browse to the directory where the firmware file is located and select it. The upgrade process only takes a couple of minutes. The phone will reboot with the new load and new menu options will be available:

5) Once the phone has come back up, point your browser to the phone IP and click on Admin Login and Advanced, then select the User tab. You will see the options for the video settings. Up to four (4) cameras can be defined on this screen:

6) Fill out the Camera Profiles as follows:

Camera Name: A name that identifies the camera in question (location, for example). This name will appear on the phone Video Monitoring menu on the phone LCD.

Access URL: URL in the form of rtsp://<IP_of_Camera>/img/jpgvideo.sav, for example rtsp://192.168.10.12/img/jpgvideo.sav. It is very important that you use this exact format.

Access Username and Access Password: The credentials for a user created on the camera. This user can also be the administrator (user admin password admin by default).

Associated Caller ID: The extension of a phone in the vicinity of the camera. From the SPA525G Video Monitoring menu, this number can be dialed using a softkey shorcut.

Door Control URL: This field is reserved for future use.

The following figure shows a fully configured phone monitoring a single Cisco 2300 camera:

7) Enable the Video VLAN (disabled by default), but going to Voice >> User tab (in Admin/Advanced mode). By default, the Video VLAN is set to "1". This needs to match the Video VLAN on the camera, which by default is also "1".

IMPORTANT NOTE: The phone will obtain an IP address from the DHCP server on the Video VLAN. If the Video VLAN is different from the Voice VLAN, the SPA525G will effectively have two IP addresses.

8) Click on Submit All Changes at the bottom of the configuration page when done. Phone will reboot.

SPCP (UC500) Mode

It is necessary to also update the phone firmware to the latest release in order to take advantage of the most recent product enhancements. Follow these steps to upgrade the phone:

1) Download the latest phone firmware using the link from the table above.

2) Drag and Drop the file you just downloaded into the UC500 icon inside the CCA Topology View. In the File Upload window, select Upload.

3) In less than 2 minutes, the phone firmware will be uploaded to the UC500. You should see a "Phone Firmware Upload Successful" message appear in CCA. Reboot the phone (or phones) by right clicking the SPA525G icon in CCA topology and selecting Reboot. Wait until the firmware upgrade process is completed.

Note: Currently, all configuration menus are locked when the phone is operating in SPCP mode. To unlock these menus and proceed with this integration, the phone must be set to allow changes through a web broswer. To do this, press the Settings button on the keypad and Navigate to Network Configuration >> Web Server Writable, and confirm this option is checked then press Save.

4) Open a browser to the phone IP (can be obtained by right clicking on the phone icon in the CCA Topology View) and navigate to the User tab. You will see the options for the video settings. Up to four (4) cameras can be defined on this screen:

Monitoring Video from the SPA525G phone

After all the above configuration steps have been completed, do the following to display video on your SPA525G phone(s):

1) Press the Settings button on the phone keypad and navigate to the Video Monitoring menu.

2) Select the camera that you want to display from the available list of devices and press the Monitor softkey.

3) Optionally, make a test call to the extension associated with this camera and configured earlier by pressing the Call softkey.

4) Press the Back softkey to go back to the main page.

Notice that while browsing the video camera from the SPA525G phone, you can still receive and make calls by going offhook on any one of the configured line buttons.

Limitations and Caveats

The following is a list of limitations and known issues:

- While monitoring video from the SPA525G phone, the device can still make and receive calls. However, inbound calls will not change the display focus and the only visual indication will be a flashing LED associated with the line being called. To answer an inbound calls, simple press the line button.

- The MJPEG settings of the camera cannot be changed if this camera is integrated with the SPA525G phone. Changing these settings would prevent the video stream from being displayed on the phone.

- Door Access Control from the SPA525G phone using the GPIO ports on the back of the camera is not possible at the moment.

- Audio integration between the IP phone and the camera is not currently possible.

- SPA525G with VPN client enabled cannot have video monitoring enabled

This looks great.  What about the 9900 series phones.  They are nicer.

Can the video be tied to an FXS so when a call comes into an FXS the video will popup.

Also can the video be access as a singe button click.

Are any video encorders supported?

Only the SPA525G is supported by the MonitorView application. ON the FXS question, the answer is no currently. Single button video access is not supported and neither are additional video encoders.

Did you hear if the vc series was going to be supported.  I was told by a smbs cisco engineer that they are supported, but I cannot get mine to work.

I have not hear that yet, but Cisco is always cooking new things in the labs.

So now I changed the camera to a PVC2300 and I still cannot see the camera on the UC540 topology page.  I am above the minimum software on the camera and the u540, CCA.  What am I missing in the setup.  I cannot run the video setup wizard becuase the uc540 does not see the camera.
