3rd party phones are not supported by TAC on any device running CME. That is
a company-wide policy. The licenses you buy to support Cisco SIP phones can
be used to register 3rd party phones, but again, this is not TAC-supported.

Even though they're not TAC supported, many 3rd party SIP (soft)phones will work fine w/ UC500. As an example, I configured the standard Ubuntu softphone (Ekiga) to connect to my demo UC500 by simply entering the IP address of the UC500 as registrar server.

But again, Cisco cannot support such a setup, there are simply too many 3rd party SIP phones out there for us to test and support. Please make sure you've tested all scenarios in your lab before proposing a solution w/ 3rd party phones.
