General Information

The UC 500 Software Packs bundle all the necessary files for the UC 500 Series platform. The files include UC 500 IOS image, voicemail and automated attendant CUE software, IP Phone firmware files, and multiple TAR/archive files for various components of the UC 500 (for example vlan information, default configuration files for each product SKU, ringer files for IP Phones, music-on-hold files, background images for colored IP Phones, etc.). The UC 500 Software Packs are thoroughly tested with CCA releases and are pre-installed on UC 500 shipped from Cisco.

MD5 Checksum

A UC 500 Software Pack contains a bundle of various software components resulting to a large zip file - E.g. 300MB. To validate the integrity of the Software Pack before use with CCA the checksum of the Software Pack can be compared to the MD5 checksum posted here. A program like FSUM can be used to compute the checksum-

Thanks mtempelman!

I can tell you - you can open a case at cisco for your problem ... and the problem is known. The vendor of the CSTA driver knows that cisco knows the problem and says ... cisco says in the next firmware problem will be fixed ...and we are waiting a few month now.

Cisco sell unready and faulty UC products and steal us a lot of time.

I don't want a connection with my iphone or any other complex and special feature, but i need the feutures of a standard PBX, a stable enviroment, and than some extra features, for the name Cisco and the higer price.

May be, Cisco has not enough employee at the development, or it is an very big projekt to combine the diffrent cisco products in one box with one easy interface. What do you need ? A letter to the Cisco Management of several unhappy customers - no problem?

It seems Albrecht has a the same problem as we have. There is a serious problem with CTI-application which uses CSTA. One of our customers uses a CRM application from a third party which uses a middleware layer that depends on CSTA-based communication. The result is a hanging UC560 which does not only affect the customers telephony but also hits its network (the UC is the main router). Luckily this customer has been patient. We sold the UC560 and a certified Cisco partner sold the middleware. We both and the German developer can not solve this so please be careful before shooting your gun....

Are there filed bugs? Has the issue been escalated keeping the case priority 1 all the time ?

I'm sure that Cisco has no problem in discussing their product bugs. For as many they have.

We only sold the UC560. The partner which sold the software "owns" the problem and keeps us up-to-date so I cannot really say anything about current cases. What we hear from the softwarepartner is that the developer has been in contact about this with Cisco and they point out that this is related to a bug in the IOS in the latest SWP. Currently we have a beta available for testing. What I tried to point out was that what Albrecht has to deal with is a real bug and has nothing to do with incompetence what some were suggesting.

The customer has a PBX which he has to reset at least once per week and a CRM-application with CTI-integration which is really unstable for 10 months now. We've had several customers asking for CTI-solutions but as long this is not fixed (and the current lack of other useful CTI solutions) we won't sell any UC500 based CTI-solutions. In the end this just hurts the UC500 business.

I'd like to see bugfixreleases in between SWP-releases. For now let's all hope the release WILL be released first half of may.

Regards,

Marcel.

P.S. We're still selling UC500-systems and we also have a lot of happy customers.

Well, apparently the Software Pack 8.6 will be released this month... Im excited to try it in our lab, so I would appreciate if you could give us information on the specific date and how to download it, whether it would a beta or official release....

Thanks in advance,

I'd also like to take part in any beta if possible.

The suspense is KILLING me!

Sean, i'd say that you may not be getting a response about the beta because the release is imminent (hopefully). I placed my application for the early beta as well approximately a week ago, but heard nothing.

In the absence of a Cisco response, I can advise that the beta has been going on for some time with existing partners (we are one) so you have most likely missed the boat for this release. We were also involved in the previous proposed release 8.3.0 which has since been scrapped for 8.6.0. It contains CME8.6 and CUE8.6.2 as listed above.

I can report that other than some teething issues with Jabber (which will most likely be resolved in CCA configuration), the release appears fairly stable and I would imagine the release will be imminent. They may need to drop the Jabber support to get the release out as this appears to be one of the only sticking points, but I can't comment on behalf of the Cisco team.

Oh and I think it's safe to say that MAY will turn into JUNE.

Maybe June ... Maybe you'll get it from Santa Claus in December.

It is not very nice to know there are a lot of problems and the vendor need more than a halfe year to release a new  firmware. This are reasons enough for us to choose an other solutions for our costumers in the future.

That's a real shame Scott, Jabber was one of the things I was really looking forward to implementing.

Would you prefer they released something that wasnt quite working?

Sure... the over promise and under deliver is annoying at anytime, but...

The software pack will be released when its ready.

Well, they haven't pushed the date past MAY 2012!  Which would mean that the software update should be released by end of day today. Now, if it isn't released by EOD, then I'd be worried.  That's an indication that they've given up on informing us about the release.

Hi!

I have not found the time to investigate the problems, but I should say that we are far from having a working solution on mobile devices I had the impression that there are too many limitations and that there is not fully functional; but then again, I stopped after the first test. In fact I even wrote a few lines in the reserved forum, but there has not been followed!

Maybe, the team has had more problems than expected... !?

Arturo.

Navin & Team, it wouldn't hurt to update the punters here... the natives are getting restless...

To me, it looks like the software pack is quite good and stable, just appears to be CCA config related issues if anything, but can't send the cart before the horse.

We have been able to get Jabber to work, although I'm not sure I'd deploy it for a customer just yet. Deskphone integration isn't included, and probably won't be. I don't think voicemail is there yet either.

I have discovered issues with the Jabber client itself (nothing to do with the SMB team), where the incoming call doesn't bring it to the foreground on an iPhone, it just vibrates in the background and you have to guess it's Jabber and open the app to answer the call. I won't be rolling it out to my customers as early adopters, but we'll play with it in-house for a while first and hope for a better soft phone client release.

I would advocate for the pack and CCA to be released minus the Jabber functionality, and continue to test this and release in a later CCA release, but I am but a sole needle in a very large haystack.

There has been a delay in posting the SWP due to some technical  difficulties. The software pack will be posted June 4th. We apologize  for the delay and thank you for your patience. Please email cca-eft@cisco.com to get the beta version for urgent deployments.
