General Information

The UC 500 Software Packs bundle all the necessary files for the UC 500 Series platform. The files include UC 500 IOS image, voicemail and automated attendant CUE software, IP Phone firmware files, and multiple TAR/archive files for various components of the UC 500 (for example vlan information, default configuration files for each product SKU, ringer files for IP Phones, music-on-hold files, background images for colored IP Phones, etc.). The UC 500 Software Packs are thoroughly tested with CCA releases and are pre-installed on UC 500 shipped from Cisco.

For any questions relating to the UC 500 Software Packs please email uc500-swp@cisco.com.

MD5 Checksum

A UC 500 Software Pack contains a bundle of various software components resulting to a large zip file - E.g. 300MB. To validate the integrity of the Software Pack before use with CCA the checksum of the Software Pack can be compared to the MD5 checksum posted here. A program like FSUM can be used to compute the checksum-

I have  a customer who has a Cisco UC520-24U-8FXO-K9

Currently running:

Cisco IOS Software:  UC500-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M

Software Version:  12.4(22)YB5 / CME 7.1

Cisco Unity Express Version 3.0

I would like to see about upgrading them to the 8.2 Software Pack

I haven’t found any good docs that state:

-Do they meet the hardware requirements to do so? When upgrading on ISR routers it is particular on the IOS version and hardware requirements.  I wasnt sure if this came into play with the UC520

-Does the current Unified Call Connector work with that version of code for the UC520 or are there any issues?

-If they are mainly configured via CLI will there be an issue upgrading using the CCA?

Please let me know if there is somewhere to verify these items

Hi,

Is there any idea when the next pack will be released?  Is it likely to be in the next week or later towards the end of Jan?

Awesome, another delay in an important software pack.

Agreed, this is totally unacceptable - the release of 8.6 has already been pushed back repeatedly for a year now.

I don't think Cisco are taking this seriously and are destroying their product line by insisting on updating CCA.

I was called in last week to resolve problems for a very unhappy end user who had a UC500 that another partner had installed.  As usual the partner had used CCA and had no understanding at all of how to configure CME.

The end user was seething about how awful Cisco was, and once again I found myself defending Cisco and desperately trying to keep them from going to another vendor.  After configuring their system correctly via CLI, the customer is now very happy.

It's upsetting to those like myself and all our very knowledgeable staff (we're a partner) to see what is arguably the best VoIP platform around being trashed by this.

Scott, you are absolutly right.

We are a Cisco partner in Germany and about 50% of our Cisco UC500 customers had their system installed by another partner who used CCA. They came to use because nearly nothing worked. After reprogramming the UC500 via CLI everything is fine. The UC500 is a great product for small and medium businesses, but the CCA is espacially with the German ISDN pretty much useless.

So I hope Cisco will release CME version 8.6 or higher (the ISRG2s have now CME 9.x!!!) for UC500 very soon. And I cannot see a problem if that version is missing CCA support.

In this case the delay appears to be due to IOS outstanding bugs.

Dear Community members;

First of all, we would like to express our apologies for this additional delay on the UC500 Software Pack 8.3. The reason for the delay is that IOS version used for the SW pack did not have the appropriate quality to go to the field, experiencing serious issues that would affect nearly 50% of our customer base, no matter whether you used CCA or CLI to configure it. In order to keep our customers and partners away from experiencing quality issues, we postponed the release until the major defects are solved.

We are working since last weeks to solve these issues, recreate the IOS image, software pack in order to perform full regression testing on the platform. Our team is focus on that as we speak. However, as you may know already, validating quality of software is a process that requires full validation from engineering and a full test regression. We currently estimate the next software pack will be available on the month of March 2012.

Meanwhile we decided to launch CCA 3.2 (although no new SW pack) in order to take advantage of some features (such as multisite dial plan only) that are available on the assistant.

If you have any additional concern or comment you would like to express, please feel free to use the community or contact me directly via email to amontill at cisco dot com.

Best Regards;

Alberto Montilla

Thank you Alberto for exposing the issues holding the next software release on the UC500.

As a former Cisco Test Engineer in San Jose, I fully understand the pressure placed on your group to guarantee software quality to Cisco customers. At the same time I know that the the stretch goals given to outstanding engineering teams, can stimulate them to achieve Cisco success once again.

Please keep us informed and if I can make a last remark, that would be on the same lines as the posts above, to not jeopardize UC500 excellence.

Hello Alberto,

how is it going? Can you tell when in March 2012 Software Pack 8.3 will be released?

Thanks.

Any updates whether new 8.3 Software Pack will launch this month? If so... do you have a date?

Thanks in advance, and if you can share with us the release notes of 8.3 we will appreciate...

Thanks again

Hello Alberto,

we and some of our customers have a lot of trouble with the curent firmware of the UC500. I would be very happy if Cisco would inform his partner a little better about the current state. Sorry - bit if nothing changes, we will not sell further products from Cisco Small Business.

Thanks

Albrecht

Great, now it's April! I cannot believe it!

April is fine, please get it right. I would rather have a functional unit with a waiting client than a rushed software pack and a former client, already had enough of those..

Changing the date on Aprill, without any comment - I think that's quite bold.

Leave partners and customers with so many problems that - that's not OK.

Cisco has already lost his good reputation in many areas. With me now finally!

A customer of us, after several weeks with many Problems now will return the uc 540. We have invested much time and money and I can understand the customer anyway.

IT service providers lose tons of money and the desire to sell unfinished products like this!

I think we'll look for other manufacturers. So much arrogance must punish you easy!

In the medium scenario is this - No switches, no PBX, No ASA ...
