The following document describes how to use CCA 1.8 or higher to configure your UC500 using your wired LAN connection while simultaneously connecting to another network with your wireless network connection. A setup where your CCA PC has more than one network connection is commonly referred to as Dual-Network Interface Card (NIC)

Caveats:

Operations involving TFTP or FTP file transfers to the UC500 are not supported with a dual-NIC PC. These operations should only be performed with a single NIC connection. Examples include:

1. Software upgrades: UC500 software pack, IOS or CUE images

2. Restore to factory default

3. Uploading audio files, such as Music on hold, Auto attendant and B-ACD prompts

4. Uploading Auto Attendant script files

5. Updating System speed-dials

6. Telephony Setup Wizard

Procedure

In general, we recommend using the wired LAN connection to connect to the UC500 when using CCA.

1. Connect the Wired LAN connection on your PC to one of the UC500 PoE ports

2. In the Windows XP Control Panel, double-click Network Connections

3. Select your Local Area Connection, right-click and select Properties

4. Double-click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties

5. Click Advanced button

6. Enter "5" in Interface Metric field. Click OK and close out the Local Area Connection Settings

7. Select your Wireless Network Connection, right-click and select Properties

8. Repeat steps 4 - 5

9. Enter "1" in Interface Metric field. Click OK and close out the Wireless Network Connection settings

10. Go to Start > Run and enter "cmd" to open the Windows Command window

11. Enter "route add 10.1.0.0 MASK 255.255.0.0 192.168.10.1" to establish connectivity to voice network

12. Ping 10.1.10.1 to verify connectivity to the voicemail module

After completing these steps you should be able to use CCA to configure the UC500 using your wired Local Area network connection. Your wireless network card can be used to check e-mail, access the internet or perform other non-CCA related tasks. Note that with this configuration, your wireless network card will always be your primary interface for network access. To revert to the Windows default, using the wired Local Area connection as the primary network interface, reset the Interface metric settings for your network interfaces to "Automatic Metric."

Note to Cisco Employess running Secure Services Client or an Partner with similar obnixious SW that wants to control your network connections.

In order to have 2 interfaces active simultaneously, you must remove the property from the WIRED ethernet as shown (uncheck the box)

Just thought I'd mention for people who have VMWare Worksation installed on the PC where you are running CCA from, that the VMnet1 and VMnet8 adaptors are 'multiple NICs' for the purposes of this article.  As I understand the gist of this article, you'd want to set these interfaces to a "lesser metric" (ie. a higher number) than your internet-facing interface (the wireless interface in the above example).  They need not be a "greater metric" (ie. a lesser number) than the UC500-facing interface.  Step 10 adding the route would still be the same.
