Add a Hard Drive to RAID 5 on NSS324 and NSS326

Objectives

This document explains how the addition of a new member drive to the RAID 5 disk volume is configured. RAID 5 disk arrangement allows for high availability through disk striping and parity. The array combines three or more disks and is often chosen in database environments for its storage efficiency.

Applicable Devices

  • NSS324
  • NSS326

Software Version

  • v1.5.0

Adding a Hard Drive

Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose Disk Management > RAID Management. The Raid Management page opens:

Step 2. Choose an available RAID 5 volume and click Add Hard Drive.

Step 3. Choose the hard drive you wish to add to the RAID array and click Add Hard Drive.

Step 4. Click Add Hard Drive.

Note: All data on the selected drive will be deleted during this process. This process may take as little as a few hours or more than 24 hours to complete depending on the number and size of the drives being replaced. Please wait patiently for the process to finish. Do not turn off power to the NAS during this process.

Step 5. After drive expansion, the number of drives in the configuration and the total capacity will reflect the changes. You can start to use the larger capacity.
