Device Configuration and Administration

The Cisco® 521 Wireless Express Access Point is a single-band 802.11g access point that features business-class management, security, and scalability. This access point offers high-performance wireless connectivity in carpeted offices and similar environments.

In the Standalone mode, the Cisco 521 Access points are directly connected to the wired infrastructure and provide reliable high-speed wireless connectivity to users in the area they cover. Configuration and management is performed locally at the individual access point level. The APs are managed individually only through Cisco Configuration Assistant (CCA) and only a maximum of three standalone APs are supported

Configuration Example for a Cisco AP521G Autonomous Access Point

The UC520 router ships with a factory default configuration and has two pre-configured SSIDs: uc520-voice for VoWLAN clients attached to VLAN 100 and uc520-data for WLAN data clients, attached to VLAN 1. The default SSID configurations have open authentication and no encryption configured.

1. Configure CE520 or CE500 switch and Cisco Unified Communications (UC) 500 Series Platform as documented in the manuals

2. Connect the PC with the CCA to the switch port on the UC500 or CE520+

3. Connect the Cisco AP521 autonomous access point to any of the available switch PoE ports on the UC500 or the CE520 or power them with supplied power injectors if PoE ports are not available

4. If CE 500 series is deployed in the configuration configure the smart ports on the CE as ‘Access Points’ ports

5. Cisco AP521s are factory configured for DHCP, make sure DHCP server is configured on the UC500 or DHCP server is setup on the network

6. AP 521 should obtain IP address from the DHCP server

7. Launch the Cisco Configuration Assistant (CCA) application.

8. CCA will start discovering stand alone AP on the network one by one and ask for the Login name and password for the APs. Default username is ‘admin’ and password is ‘Cisco’

9. After the login credentials entered AP will show up in the CCA topology view and are ready to be configured

10. The AP shown in the CCA topology view as shown can be configured by choosing the “Configure” tab

11. By clicking on the AP icon you can get AP information such shown below or you can also configure the Cisco AP521

Note: Autonomous Access Points icon have a circle; LWAPP based Access Pointss icons have a triangle

13. Choose the desired AP from the Hostname drop-down menu.

14. Click the Create button. The window below launches:

15. Enter a suitable name for the SSID.

The example shown here does not have the SSID broadcasted. You can choose to broadcast the SSID based upon your network deployment preferences.

Note: The UC520 router ships with a factory default configuration and has two pre-configured SSIDs: uc520-voice for VoWLAN clients attached to VLAN 100 and uc520-data for WLAN data clients, attached to VLAN 1. The default SSID configurations have open authentication and no encryption configured.

16. Choose WEP from the Security menu.

17. Enter a suitable pass phrase, choose 128bit for Key1, and then click Generate.

18. Note the WEP key.

You can generate up to four keys. This example only shows one key
