You can use the SPA9000 Setup Wizard to restore a configuration to a device that needs to be replaced.
Best practices suggest that you keep current backups of your SPA9000 Voice System Installation.
Save backups using the SPA9000 Setup Wizard > Main > Save / Load Configuration
Save / Load Configuration:
- Device: Select device to backup [All devices is convenient]
- Select Save configuration to file
- Click Next
The Wizard displays a pop-up window describing the target directory [named for PBX MAC ID-MM-DD-YYYY-HH-MM] - Click OK
The Wizard displays in a pop-up window, the name of the directory that it created and a list of files that it backed up. - Click OK
Restoring Configuration to Another Device:
In the event that an installed device needs to be replaced for any reason, you can restore another device's configuration to it and continue working with minimum downtime.
In this example, assume that you need to replace your SPA9000 IP PBX MAC address: 000E08E1DDB9
with a new SPA9000 MAC address: 000E08E1D855
Proceed as follows:
Document the original SPA9000's IP address because you will use it on the new SPA9000.
- Navigate to the directory containing the most current SPA9000 backup directory PBX000E08E1DDB9-03-04-2009-06-31
- Copy and paste the directory
- Rename Copy of PBX000E08E1DDB9-03-04-2009-06-31 to PBX000E08E1D855-03-04-2009-06-31[insert the new MAC address]
- Navigate to the C:\linksys directory
- Copy and paste the *.act and *.pwd files that use the MAC address of the old SPA9000
- Rename the copied files with the new SPA9000's MAC address
- Navigate into the new directory
- Copy and paste the *.act and *.xml files that use the old SPA9000's MAC address
- Rename the copied files with the new SPA9000's MAC address
Factory Reset the new SPA9000
- Connect an analog phone to PHONE 1 of the new SPA9000
- Connect power to the new SPA9000
- Go off-hook on the analog phone
- Dial **** [four asterisks]
- Dial 73738# when prompted
- Dial 1 to confirm
Restore the Backup to the new SPA9000
- Remove the old SPA9000 from the network
- Connect the new SPA9000 to the network [All phones' LEDs will be orange because they have lost registration with the original SPA9000]
- Start the SPA9000 Setup Wizard > Main > Save / Load Configuration
- Click OK when the Wizard reports that the SPA9000 is using a DHCP IP address
- Type in the original SPA9000's IP address in the SPA9000 Network Installation Static IP window
- Click Next
- The wizard will submit the static IP address to the new SPA9000 and then reboot it. [All phones will reboot and their LEDs will turn green]
- Click OK to the Submit Succeeded pop-up window
- Click Yes if you have SPA400s in the network
- Select SPA9000 <IP address of original SPA9000>
- Select Retrieve configuration from file
- Select the most current backup available that uses the new SPA9000's MAC address [you copied, pasted, and renamed this earlier]
- Click Open
- Select the *.xml file that uses the new SPA9000's MAC address
- Click Open
- Click OK to dismiss the Load Succeeded pop-up
- Click Save configuration to device
- Click Next
- Click OK to the parameters to be submitted pop-up
- Click OK if you're warned that a firmware upgrade is required
- Click OK to dismiss the Save Succeeded pop-up
- Exit the wizard
- The phones will all reboot three times and their LEDs will turn green after about 5 minutes to indicate that they have registered with the SPA9000
Make some test internal, outbound, and inbound calls to verify that all is working as expected.
