I have a 3850-48p and connected to it an MGBSX1, is this SFP compatible? I have 3 cisco 300 series(really Linksys) switches and they communicate? anyone know if I need different SFPs

Hi

3850s don't support those SFPs here is the list of exactly what your model supports , sometimes even when there not listed they still work :) but if something goes wrong you wont get any support with non supported sfps in place

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/interfaces_modules/transceiver_modules/compatibility/matrix/GE_Tx_Matrix.html

and the 10GB support

Thank you. I was told that the sfp that I have MGBSX1 is for small business switches like the sf300. Fiber tested good I took 2 SF300 and connected them using the same SFPs and same fiber and they communicated. when I connected the sfp to the c3850, interface shows down/down notconnect. does this sound like an sfp issue

yes that's correct really for SMB switches only not catalyst which are programmed differently

it sounds yes as if the 3850 does not like the SFP and the SFP is not the issue as it works fine between 2 SMB switches , you'll need to use an SFP that's common to both switches if possible or just go copper if possible between them instead of fibre if the sf has copper ports at all
