I have attached paint picture of network devices and wondering why I can't ping or telnet these devices.

Here is my router config:

Some things:

  1. Not a fan of giving the G0/0 primary interface and IP and then creating sub interfaces below. Suggest taking the IP off the major interface and making it a sub-interface.
  2. You don't say what switch port the router connects to. What is it and does it allow all the VLANs on the trunk?
  3. You have the management IP of the switch in VLAN 1, yet the corresponding interface is on VLAN 30 on the router. These need to be in the same VLAN and if so making that the native VLAN on the trunk between the switch and router would probably be a good idea.
  4. You are connecting your PC to port 6 which looks like it is configured as a trunk. Be best if it was an access port in one VLAN.
  5. Add "login" to the vty lines on the router.

Just a start anyway. Hope this helps.

First I would like to thank you for your suggestions.

I made you suggestions in #1.

Regarding to #2 I have the router to the switch through GE0/0 to Link/ACT Gigabit

#3 I am not sure what you mean, can you show me the commands to make that happen?

#5 completed that

Thank you once again and look forward to your response.

OK, I haven't done much with the SG-300s but think I can help.

Regarding #3:

The configuration on the router has the 10.201.30.254 in VLAN 30:

!
interface GigabitEthernet0/0.30
 encapsulation dot1Q 30
 ip address 10.201.30.254 255.255.255.0
!

The switch has the associated IP 10.201.30.2 in VLAN1

!
interface vlan 1
 ip address 10.201.30.2 255.255.255.0
 no ip address dhcp
!

They need to be in the same VLAN. You have VLAN 30 set up as the default VLAN on the switch so change the switch to:

!

interface vlan 30
 ip address 10.201.30.2 255.255.255.0
 no ip address dhcp
!

Then change the native VLAN of the trunk to VLAN 30. On the router:

!
interface GigabitEthernet0/0.30
 encapsulation dot1Q 30 native

 ip address 10.201.30.254 255.255.255.0
!

As far as the switch is concerned, do a "show cdp nei" on the router and identify the port on the switch you are connected or check from the switch. Link/Act is not a port identifier. Once identified, I'd allow VLAN 30 to the trunk and make it the native VLAN on the switch. If you can send updated configs.

Router is connected to Port 25 on the switch.

Here are my updated configs:

Couple questions and things to try:

1- When you defined VLAN 30 on the switch as the default VLAN, did you save the config and reboot the switch? I assume you did, but just asking.

2- Can you ping across the trunk either from the router to the switch or vice versa?

3- What is the output of "sh ip int brief" on the router?

4- What is the output of the "show interface g25 status detailed" on the switch.

4- If nothing is still working try removing " switchport default-vlan tagged" from the G25 interface on the switch.

Here is my response to your questions:

1. Yes

2. I have laptop set  with 10.201.30.4 255.255.255.0 cable from laptop to port1 on switch.

Only able to ping from switch to router 10.201.30.2

Only able to ping Router to switch 10.201.30.254

3.see attach

4. see attach

5. have not touch it

So if the laptop is configured with 10.201.30.4 and is connected to port 1 on the switch, is VLAN 30 assigned to that port?

I have attach two files on status of port 1 on the switch. Saved configuration and then restarted switch after changes and status same with pinging after vlan 30 assigned to port 30.

I am now able to ping all interfaces on my router using Putty. I added telnet

to the following command:

transport input telnet ssh

Not able to ping my default-gateway 10.201.30.100

Try to change it to 10.201.1.3 and got the following message:

Only a directly connected router can be defined as the gateway.

Thanks

Glad telnet is working and you can ping all the interfaces. Good to hear.

Why isn't the router (10.201.20.254) the default gateway?

What is the .100 host and to which port is it connected?

You have EIGRP configured, do you have any neighbors or a routing table? Is there a default route?

1. How did you come about 10.201.20.254 as being the default gateway?

2.  .100 is not connect to any port, it is being used for "ip access-list standard snmp_acl.  What do you recommend I change that to?

3. We use EIGRP here so I was told to include it in my setup.

1. 10.201.20.254 is defined as the default-router in the DHCP scope. That would be the network's default gateway for the hosts.

2- Little confused by this. The IPs defined in the "ip access-list standard snmp_acl" are not active IPs on the router. They are just hosts that are permitted. Unless there is an actual 10.201.30.100 device connected to the network, there would be nothing to ping.

3- OK, so EIGRP isn't being used just yet and I assume not fully connected to the network.

I changed my default-gateway on the router to 10.201.20.254. I try to change the "ip default-gateway to 10.201.20.254 on the switch and got the same message:

Only a directly connected router can be defined as the gateway.

I have a cable from GE0/0 to switch port 1. My laptop is connected to port 25 and setting for laptop are 10.201.20.4  255.255.255.0  10.201.20.254.

Can't ping anything within putty in the switch but if I telnet while in the switch I can ping 10.201.20.254.

While in the router through Putty I can ping all interface on router and switch.

Why can't I ping in the switch?

OK I had a typo. When your laptop was IP 10.201.30.4 and connected to a port configured in VLAN 30 on the switch, its default gateway should have been 10.201.30.254. (Not 10.201.20.254).

Try that.
