Hi ,

We have a private network of 192.168.4.* . This network was set at the router . How do I access the cisco switch which sits in between and has a default address of 192.168.1.254?

I have tried to seperate it from the router and connect to it seperately but it wont take in the ip.

Thanks in advance

Hi

You will need to pull the switch off of the network and plug your computer directly into to the switch. Once you are plugged in you will need to set your computer to a static address to 192.168.1.x or 192.168.1.10 with 255.255.255.0 for the subnet. You can leave the default gateway blank. Then you will be able to log into the switch at 192.168.1.254. Once you are in you will need to change the local ip addres to match your network-192.168.4.x and save settings. Next put your computer back to obtain an ip address auto and plug the switch into your network. Now you should be able to access the switch through your network. Let me know if this works for you.

Thank you for your reply. I will try that and let you know the outcome.
