Minimum 3 switch models required which fulfill the mentioned requirements which are:- 48 x 1Gb connections with the capability to tag each port to its own VLAN and trunk the VLANS through the switches to the ESXi server.

Are you looking for Enterprise or DC switches, Are you looking for high throughput?

First look at Cat 9300 - see if that fit ( I would go with Cat 9500 for better performance, if you have budget)

if you looking DC switch Nexus 9300 is a good choice for that requirement.
