SG 200 Firmware

Hello,

I saw that there is a new firmware (v1.3) available for SG 200 switches. However, for SG 200-08 the most recent version ist still 1.0.6.2. I wonder if there will be managements features  like cli or anmp for the SG 200-08 too. I really need those.

Or is there maybe a way to just deploy the 1.3 firmware on the SG 200-08?

thanks in advance!

Andreas, here  is the datasheet for the 200E flavors.

Quite honestly, you should buy a 300 series switch. The 8 port variety is pretty inexpensive, like $300 may be. It has a fully supported CLI and the feature set is incredibly rich for the price point (layer 3, dhcp server as example).

Hi Andreas, there is not a CLI option for the Sg200 switches. The SG200E models do have a CLI feature. The Sg200-8 is a different firmware set than the bigger brothers (no idea why... but ok).

On the release notes for the sg200-8 models I'm not seeing the SNMP or the SSH (SCP) features added

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/csbss/sg200/release_notes/200_8-Port_R1.0.6.x.pdf

The 1.3 software sadly isn't available or does not work on the -8 model. When loading it says something to the effect invalid file format.

Hello Tom,

first of all thanks for your answer. You mentioned the SG200E models. Unfortunately I can't find any information about them on cisco.com or even google.

What I need is a compact desktop switch just like the SG200-8 with 802.1q, 802.1x and some skriptable sort of management. Is there maybe an alternative switch I didn't see yet? Or could you please post a link to the SG200E models?

This would be so helpful.

thank you,

Andreas

Thank you very much.

The costs are not the only problem. The size of the switches is problematic too. While the SG 200 - 8 are more or less invisible in the office, the SG 300 look rather bulky. They can't be hidden away anywhere. OK. Thank you for the information.

Regards,

Andreas

What would really be cool is an SG200 or 300 -16 DT (series 200 or 300, 16 port, giga bit, desk top model)

To me desktop model means:

height and width just enough to fit the physical ports

depth just enough to fit the electronics inside.

     physical ports on rear

     status on front bezel

     passive cooling

     silent

     SG200-08 is a good example.

Take the SF100D-16 and update it to SG200 or SG300 series gbit, and give it a front status bezel like the SG200-08.  To make an SG200-16 or SG300-16 desktop model switch.

Those would make awesome desktop model switchs.

In fact if there were such an SG200-16 DT today.  I'd buy it.  Have been looking for 16 port, gig, smart/managaged, desktop switch and can't find any.

There is a hole in the product line up.
