SG200 vs SF200 any differences in terms of Multcasting
i have just moved jobs and I have been involved in a project to stream TV pictures to remote MPLS sites using Multicast. In our network we have SG200 switches and SF200 switches, which work as core and access switches respectively. The streaming/receiving servers and camera are all considered business critical, and as such the design policy is to have these devices been plugged into the core switches. What we have found however is that this setup doesn't work, but strangely if we move the same devices into a SF200 access switch configured for Multicasting in the same way the setup works fine.
To prove this point further we upgraded a SG200 switch with the latest firmware and reconfigured Multicasting so that it mirrored the setup for the access switch. The TV signal works but is displayed with a pink hue, however when reverting the network kit back to the SF200, the same setup worked fine and the picture appears normal. A colleague working on the project did some troubleshooting before on a similar site, and all ports were observed in Wireshark and nothing appeared out of the ordinary.
Are there any differences between the IGMP/Multicast setup of the SG200 and SF200 switches. We used these guides for a reference
Both SG 200 & SF 200 use the same firmware, the only difference is the port speed, F for Fast Ethernet and G for Gigabit Ethernet everything else works the same way including multicast/IGMP, it is very odd that you were having that issue, please make sure that the firmware version is 1.4.5.02 and if the problem persist please open a case using the Cisco Support Case Manager with your Cisco ID and one of our engineers will be contacting you shortly.
Thanks we are using the same firmware on both types of switches. It turns out our multicast devices only work with the SF switches and so we are using them instead of our core SG switches yes odd. The SGs have POE and so it maybe something to do that
