AIR-AP2802E-E-K9C vs AIR-AP2802E-E-K9

Hi all,

I'm trying to find out the difference between AIR-AP2802E-E-K9C and AIR-AP2802E-E-K9.
I read a few documents and found out that the "C" comes from configurable but nothing more than that.

Do these AP's need an wireless controller to work ?
Can they be configured to work in a standalone setup ? (only ap's without wireless controller?) I suspect it depends on the software running on them but I want your opinions as well.

Traditional standalone solution (with no controller capabilities) targeted small deployments. Cisco has now introduced Mobility Express Solution which in simple terms ,One Access point can act as the controller and manage the other AP's .This can go up to 25 AP's.

Now, Regarding your question 2800 AP's software image can be converted from light weight (controller based )  to Mobility Express Release .

You're right regarding the one ap to act as a controller up to 25 aps, using the Mobility express feature.

I just need to know if they can be configured, like you said, in the traditional standalone solution.
From my point of view, configuring one AP to act as a controller for an x number of AP's, is nothing but getting the AP ready to be part of a network managed by a controller, if you get my point.

When a Mobility Express image is installed on an access point, it can operate in one of the modes:

1. Both as a controller and an access point

2. An access point alone
