WAP321 - Station had an authentication failure, reason 19/20

Roland Lindner

Level 1

Clients can authenticate succesful, work for some time, until they get an authentication failure, reason 19, followed by reason 20. WLAN has to be disabled and again enabled on the client and it's working again unti it come's again to the authentication failures. What do these failures mean? And how can these be resolved?

Thanks, Roland

Greetings,

Hi, My name is Eric Moyers. I am a Network Support Engineer in the Cisco Small Business Support Center. Thank you for using the Cisco Community Post Forums.

Those Reason Codes stand for the following:

19 Invalid pairwise cipher

20 Invalid AKMP

I personally have never seen those come up. They are not any of the standard codes.

Thanks

The date is also set wrong on my WAP, but thats not necessarily the issue.

This problem is new as of Friday Evening (7/19/13) last week when the device was relocated.

This has been corrected.  I backed up the config on the WAP, checked firmware release.  I was on 1.0.2.3.

Updated that, and watched it the utmost scrutiny.  Problems seem to have subsided this morning.  I will post again if anything changes.

EDIT:  If you are already running the latest firmware,  try rebooting the WAP.  I have read some issues about the key intervals.  The problem may still return.

My name Eric Moyers. I am an Engineer in the Small Business Support Center.

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue.

Can you share some particulars of your setup? WHat kind of encryption are you using, Does this happen with all wireless clients or just certain ones? Is this constantly or just every so often? Does the issue ever disappear? If so, what do you do to make that happen?

I experience also failure reason 16 and the fresh thread I have written my network setup:

https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12599076/wap321-client-authentication-failure-reason-16

I checked logs and reason 16 has been yesterday so more than 24 hours last apperance.

Now last 24 hours this 19/20 issue has affected only Android-tablets. You notice them unable to connect after idle. Wifi has to be turn on/off to get it working.

Thanks

I have managed somehow reconnecting from clients and rebooting the station. Now reason 17 keeps up showing.

Could RV130 cause this? It's log keeps filling with

1 2015-12-25 1:08:02 PM emerg Fail to delete IPv4 ARP entry
2 2015-12-25 1:08:02 PM emerg Fail to delete IPv4 ARP entry

5 2015-12-25 12:44:52 PM emerg Fail to delete IPv4 ARP entry

I removed RV130 from the network and since that Wap321 has worked, no errors.
