WAP581 5G Power source insufficient

Hi,

I'd like to drive my WAP581 by POE-injector (not Cisco) and got the famous notice "The 5G radio is disabled, due to Power Source now is insufficient (802.3af)"

I have tried different cat5e/cat6 cables.

I guess it depends in that the injector is not powerful enough, 50V, 1.2A and 60W?

Does anyone here know the minimum requirements to power the AP?

EDIT: I've had WAP371 for years without problem with actual injector.

Thanks in advance :=)

Andreas

Hi Andreas,

The WAP591 has built-in smart power source feature which detects automatically the power source from an external power adapter or PSE(802.3at and 802.3af). If you power the AP with 802.11 af then the AP automatically adjust behaviour as below:

• 5G radio disabled
• 2.4G radio in 2x2:2ss (spatial-stream) mode
• 2.5GbE(EHT0/PD) downgrade to 1GbE
• 1GbE(ETH1) disabled

You should either use 802.11 at power injector (SB-PWR-INJ2-xx or similar 802.11at) or power adapter (SB-PWR-48v-xx) to power on the WAP to use full functionalities. More information is available at https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/wireless/access_point/csbap/wap581/quick_start/EN-US/WAP581_QSG_EN.pdf

Hi again!

Now I've changed the injector to Ciscos SB-PWR-INJ2-xx and the AP is up and running. Thanks Martin.

But now to the next problem. The AP is really really unreliable. I only have the 5G activated, and it drops down all the time.

This thread sounds exactly similar to my problem --> https://community.cisco.com/t5/small-business-wireless/wap581-freezing-often/td-p/4166723

The link-speed is often down at 6-54 Mbps. I've mounted this AP at the same place as my old WAP371 was positioned.

With WAP371 the link-speed was constantly at 866 Mbps. Is there some kind of settings I've missed?

Thanks a lot.
