Transport Gateway Message box

Hello all,

i've installed a Transport Gateway (v4.1.8)using the available .ova image. The Gateway is correctly registered at cisco, it has a working connection to my Email Server, i can see in a wireshark trace that the Email Server is being periodically contacted by the transport gateway, yet none of my call-home Emails (i am doing for test purposes "call-home send alert-group inventory profile <..>" on a catalyst 9k) appears in the Message box and no attempt is done by the Transport Gateway to send a message to cisco.

I've done the same test for the connection between the catalyst and the Transport Gateway using http, with the same (unsuccessful) result...

The "Test Connection" button on the GUI returns a success message.

Does anybody has an idea what might be missing?

Thanks in advance.

Fernando

Based on the details so far, I would first recommend verifying the configuration of the call-home profile; who are the recipients attributed to 'contact-email-addr'?

Next, I would then verify the connection between the device and the transport gateway with respect to the protocol specified within your Device's call-home destination address (found within the Call-home profile you have configured). Has an ip http client source-interface been configured for an appropriate, outbound interface?

Hi Justin,

Thank you for your answer, and sorry for the late reply, the project has other parts that required my time. Let me give you a deeper description of the whole scenario, which at the same time will provide some answers to your questions. I am using two switches, an openmail relay and a Transport Gateway:

Switch 1

>Catalyst 9300 (Cisco IOS XE Software, Version 17.03.01)

>contact-email-addr sch-smart-licensing@cisco.com

>interface gi 0/0 (vrf Mgmt-vrf) sources the call-home traffic- vrf "Mgmt-vrf" is configured under call-home, interf gi 0/0 is configured as http client source-interface

>3 call-home profiles active ("CiscoTAC-1", "NH1", NH2")

CiscoTAC-1 is being used for smart-licensing

NH1 has dest. transport method HTTP and the url configured (the Transport Gateway- http://10.250.10.44:8080/Transportgateway/services/DeviceRequestHandler)

NH2 has dest. transport method email and is using the openmail relay configured under the call home profile

>Profile "CiscoTAC-1" works correctly

>Profile "NH1" does not work as expected: i can see the http connection between the switch and the Transport gateway being established, data being transferred but nothing appears in the message box of the gateway and no attempt is done to transfer data to Cisco

>Profile "NH2" does not work as expected: the switch is sending the email to the openmail relay, the email is reaching the mail server (i receive it on my mailbox), but the transport gateway apparently does not retrieve it (at least i do not see it in the message box)

Switch 2

>Catalyst 3650 (Cisco IOS XE Software, Version 16.12.01)

>contact-email-addr<...my mailbox...>

>interface vlan 9 (global routing table) sources the call-home traffic and is configured as http client source-interface

>2 call-home profiles active ("NH1", NH2")

>no smart-licensing enabled

>same results as described for Switch1

I think i answered also all your questions.  I might be missing something really basic, and  what really puzzles me is why don't i see any messages in the message box of the Transport Gateway...

any ideas?

Thanks,

Fernando
