3X50 Switch Stack Member Switches not inventoried?

lhoyle

I am only seeing one Chassis SN for each of my stacks for my corporate HQ. Is the single SN, I presume, the Stack Master? Why wouldn't all of the member switches also get inventoried?

Sorry for so many questions, we are looking at our SN renewal right after we got SNTC up and going.

TIA,

Lee

Hi Lee,

Can you provide a bit more information on what report / view you are using and exactly what type of information you are looking for? With that we should be able to guide you to the right place.

Thanks!

I have 40+ 3750X and 3850X in my corporate network. All of them except may one or two are in stacks of 4 to 6 switches.

When I discover by IP, I only see one switch chassis for each stack. I would presume this to be the stack master. The member switches don't seem get inventoried or managed; and therefore don't upload to the portal.

For example, in the collector for switch Bldg-G-sw-11, the SN for the hostname and IP address is the SN for the Stack Master.

We are currently reconciling our SNT and SNTP contracts with our primary reseller. Thanks for your help on this.

Hi Lee,

On your collector, go to Reports > Collection Profile Run Summary and click "View Data". Then search for the IP of your master switch to view the information pulled from it.

Look at the following MIBs (if present) to see if the stack switch serial numbers are being picked up by the collector:

chassisId (.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.3.6.3)

chassisSerialNumberString (.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.2.19)

entPhysicalSerialNum (.1.3.6.1.2.1.47.1.1.1.1.11)

If they are, then we know the issue is with the portal. If not, then we know the issue is with the collector.

Thanks,

Lynden

Regardless of the issue of member switches not showing up on the portal but on the collector; a bigger problem is what I have discovered today. I put the same search string (WS-C3) in "Managed Devices" report in the collector as in "All Equipment" in the portal in an effort to locate all of the 3750X and 3850X series switches in my environment.

The actual total is somewhere above 40, maybe even 50. In the collector, I have 29. In the portal, I show 10.

Any ideas are welcomed!

Lee

Hi Lee,

Is it possible that the missing devices were not collected in the subsequent collector upload?
