SMTP / mail problem

Hi,

I'm having an issue with configuring SMTP on the CSP Collector in that it expects the Sender Mail ID to be accepted as a destination by the upstream MTA. Upon clicking OK on the configuration dialog it makes an SMTP connection to the configured server and attempts to send an email to itself. If this does not work an error pops up and the configuration is not accepted.

Does anyone know a way around this? We wouldn't normally have a valid account for an appliance and would expect to be able to set the sender's address to something like cspc@myappliance.domain.local

Thanks,

Richard

Hello rtector,

When setting up the Sender Mail ID value in the CSPC, your exchange server may be requiring that the user ID is valid for sending messages.   Can you try using a valid sender ID with a descriptor added to it and see if that helps resolve your issue?  You can use the "+" symbol to add the descriptor.

Example Sender ID -> "Name+myCSPC@abc.com"

Thank you,
Jarrett

Hi Jarrett,

We don't require valid sender ID's, however when applying the configuration the collector is trying to send an email to the sender ID:

EHLO mycollector
250-smtp.company.local
250-8BITMIME
250 SIZE 20971520
MAIL FROM:<cspc@mycollector.company.local>
250 sender <cspc@mycollector.company.local> ok
RCPT TO:<cspc@mycollector.company.local>
550 #5.1.0 Address rejected.

Obviously because it is not a valid ID it gets rejected.

In my opinion the configuration should either not be immediately tested, or a test email should be sent to the configured list of recipients.

Regards,

Richard

Thank you for the details rtector.   I will work with the CSPC engineering team to see if any improvements can be made on this feature.  In the meantime, can you please see if the workaround will help resolve your issue?

Thank you,

Jarrett

Thank you for the quick response.

Unfortunately the workaround is not an option as we would need to configure the sender as a user or person in the company.
