UNREACHABLE NODES IN CSPC 2.8

Hi Experts,

So, Managed nodes = Live Nodes + Unreachable Nodes

I would like to get more information on Unreachable nodes. What are they ?

I did exported all the unreachable nodes and ran a ping sweep on them. Some of them responded to the ping and some of them did not. But, the exciting fact is the devices which failed to respond the ping are being uploaded to the SNTC portal. Might be the device was reachable before and also was uploaded during collection.

Trying to escalate all those unreachable nodes to the live nodes.

Do i really need to worry about those unreachable nodes ?

Regards,

Nabin.

UNREACHABLE NODES - generally you have added them to list but they are not able to get the detailes, could be SNMP access.

check the device IP address is this Live device and cisco device CSPC have access to poll the device information using SNMP.

Hey Nabin,

If you attempt to do a discovery using the "known IP address" method for an IP and it is not a reachable device, that IP address gets added to the "unreachable node" list. IP addresses that do not respond to SNMP in a discovery using the range scan method do not get added to the unreachable node list. If you have many IP's in the unreachable node list and you want to remove them you can simply un-manage them in the CSPC.

An unreachable node could also be a device that was once reachable and active in the network but since has been removed or is not SNMP reachable anymore. You can usually identify these devices since they are listed by their hostname in the unreachable nodes list as compared to the IP address, meaning that the CSPC was once able to communicate with it. If you have devices that are truly unreachable since they are not active in the network and they are still being uploaded to the portal and view-able in latest view then you are experiencing CSCvm90277. To prevent this behavior simply un-manage the devices or in newer versions of the CSPC use an upload profile and enable only "Managed Reachable Devices" to be included in the upload.

If you ever need to attempt to pull unreachable nodes into the reachable nodes list you can try a discovery job using the "rediscover currently managed and non-managed devices" method or run a "Device Access Verification" job and check the "Run Discovery before DAV" option only on your unreachable devices.

Thanks,

Brandon

Thank you all guys for the response. Highly appreciated.
