activating a zoneset

Hello I am new to Fabric Switches.

I have added a new zone to our zoneset. The fabric only has one active zoneset and I have backed up the Fabric.

The zone I created has two FCALIAS attached.

At this point I need to activate the zoneset with the changes and I have read the command is:

zoneset activate name "Zoneset" vsan XXX

but I also found another one:

Zoneset distribute full vsan XXX

Which one should I use? We have two Fabrics but some servers are not on each fabric yet so I want it as non disruptive as possible when I change one of the fabrics..really I don't want any downtime.

Also because I inherited these Fabrics I don't know if there are any other pending changes. Is there a command to see all the new changes before I activate (or distribute)?

A show zone statistics has me a little worried with the "Number of Change Requests Recvd: 236"

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Zoneset activate is required.  It tells the switch to enforce the changes.

Zoneset distribute is optional and can be configured to automatically distribute with activate.  This generally allows you to configure zoning from any switch in the fabric.

fcalias is distributed with zoneset distribute.

Upon activation, the fcalias is converted to pwwn in the active zoneset..

More info can be found here.

Thanks very much for the information I found it very useful.  Found there were 56 other changes besides mine pending so need to work on sorting them out.
