Documentation says to use clear logging to clear syslog. Syntax is
clear logging {logfile | nvram}
but
switch2# clear logging ?
session Clear logging session
switch2# clear logging session
CFS distribution is not enabled for logging
What is wrong ? I am on 2.0.3, the same is on 950[69] and 9216 switches.

try, "clear logging logfile" instead of "clear logging session". The latter is for clearing a session lock, which is only applicable if Cisco Fabric Services (CFS) has been enabled to distribute the syslog config info around the fabric.

I was not clear enough - nothing else then clear logging session works
switch2# clear logging logfile
^
% invalid command detected at '^' marker.
switch2# clear logging nvram
^
% invalid command detected at '^' marker.

I'm afraid the command was forgotten in 2.0(X).
The software defect is
CSCeg30714 clear logging logfile is NOT in CLI
verified in 2.1(0.119).
"clear logging session" is for CFS session for the syslog (you are right) it is not for
MDSwithSANOS134a# clear logging ?
logfile Clear logfile messages
nvram Clear nvram logs
Thanks.

Maybe you do not have permission. Are you using user "admin" or some roles based user ?
