enabling lun zoning on MDS 9148

Hi all,

i am having troubles enabling lun zoning on MDS 9148..

according to configuration guide lun zoning should be siplmly enabled by entering lun id, at the end of the following command:

switch(config)#zone name LunSample vsan 2

switch(config-zone)#member pwwn  10:00:00:23:45:67:89:ab lun 0x64

when i try to do this , there is no option to enter the key word lun.., there are only following options:

switch(config-zone)# member pwwn 21:00:00:24:ff:0a:d3:b3 ?

  <CR>

  both       Enter device-type as both

  initiator  Enter device-type as initiator

  target     Enter device-type as target

i am running following NX-OS on my MDS 9148:

kickstart variable = bootflash:/m9100-s3ek9-kickstart-mz.5.2.8b.bin

system variable = bootflash:/m9100-s3ek9-mz.5.2.8b.bin

i have enterprise license installed. i have put it in use by enabling feature port-security, as far there is no such a feature as lun zoning

switch# sh license usage

Feature                      Ins  Lic   Status Expiry Date Comments

                                 Count

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FM_SERVER_PKG                 No    -   Unused             -

ENTERPRISE_PKG                Yes   -   In use never       -

PORT_ACTIVATION_PKG           Yes  32   In use never       -

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i just want to note, that there is no Storage attached yet, so the question is: is it possible that lun id will be available once the MDS switch will learn them from Storage??

any other suggestions?

Thank You..

Hello Marek,

Since release 5.2(6) is required configure the device type (both, initiator, target).

Hello Marek,

Since release 5.2.1 and later lun zoning is no longer supported. your release is 5.2.8b

Zoning Features

LUN zoning, read-only zones, and broadcast zones are no longer supported. These features affect the following hardware:

Cisco MDS 9000 8-port 10-Gbps Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) module

Cisco MDS 9000 48-port 8-Gbps Advanced Fibre Channel Switching module

Cisco MDS 9000 32-port 8-Gbps Advanced Fibre Channel Switching module

You cannot bring up these modules if these features are already configured. You should completely remove all configurations that include these features before you attempt to bring up these modules. In addition, you cannot configure these features after you bring up these modules.
