Nexxus 5K and Microsoft 2008 NPS (Radius)

              Hi,

Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this ! - Please advise correct location.

We have a pair of N5K that we must get working with Microsoft NPS and just cannot :-(

Basically the NPS servers keep going into a "Dead State" even though we can ping them by ip and DNS name. We have added the NPS servers by DNS name.

Does anybody have any clues or pointers ?, the Cisco readme's do not help.

ping 2013 Aug  1 18:18:06 SW01 %RADIUS-5-RADIUS_MONITOR_STATUS: Radius server XXXXXX with auth-port 1812 and acct-port 1813 is now being monitored for interval 30 minutes. The server is currently marked DEAD

I have set this up but on MDS switches. Things I can think of.

  • Do you have a Firewall between the server and the switches, Ports 1812 & 1813 not been passed?
  • Do you have ACL on the switches?
  • What is your Radius setup?
  • What Authentication are you using e.g. "PAP, SPAP"?
  • From the Windows 2008 server can you Telnet or SSH (Using Putty) to the switches?
