I have an installation for CCTV over Small Business Switches.
Some switches have up to five switches connected to it.
Some switches is full with CCTV cameras that needs POE.
After getting problems in the network, I configured Syslog to monitor the case.
Some switches do cold start.
Sometimes we have to shut/no shut the port to work again.
The camera sends two streams for real time ad recording.
The camera sends broadcast, multicast and uni-cast.
My questions are,
Are small business switches suitable for this installation.
What is the parameter in data sheet that tells that (throughput, maximum POE...)?
I plan to reduce the VLAN IP subnet size to /26.
Is it better to terminate the VLAN at the main switch of the building and route it to the core.
Or terminate the VLAN on]n the core.
In another words, Is it better to do switching or routing?
I believe switching is faster since it is mostly on hard ware in contrast to routing which is done by software.

what mode of SMB switches you are using ?
Consider 2900 or 9200 new model of switches if you looking more feature performance.

You need to look in the datasheet which support your PoE requirement in totaly how many cameras you going to connect to switch. so you should have maximum power PSU support and - suggest to have redundant PSU since CCTV require 24/7.(in case 1 PSU fails other can take over)
other option to Lookout Multicast support.
