Cisco SF300-24-PoE Switch, when connected to Wireless radio does not work. Why?

Hi all,

I am a novice at networking. I have a Cisco SF300-24 devices support PoE, PoE mode on my already enabled. But when I try to connect with wireless radio devices, devices that I connect does not turn on. Is that a problem? Thank you for your help.

Hi Steven, the M5 is not a POE device. It uses an injector according to the datasheet. You can provide the POE statistics such as the counter so we can see if it is like an invalid signature, short, or something else. Additionally, what firmware do you use and have you tried different ports on the switch? Is there other POE devices connected to the switch as well?

Hi Toms, So it can not connect directly to the Bullet M5 Cisco Switch SF300-24? I am using firmware version is 1.3.0.62. I've tried to connect on other ports but the results remain the same. But before I try to connect it directly to the HP switch Cisco Switch SF300-24, and the device can work well. I wonder what is the problem? Thank you

Hello Steven,

I think Bullet-M5 needs a power of 6 watts. You can either set the port limit as 6 watts to the ports that you have connected your M5s or you can set the class limit of 2. In the web configuration utility, go to Port Management > PoE > Properties to set the switch into Port mode or class mode. Then, go to Port Management > PoE > Settings to assign port power or class limit. Note that if you set a value lower than what your device consume, the switch will power off the device as the device will be requesting more than its limit.

Also in your topology, do you have multiple PoE switches? If yes, turn PoE feature OFF for all the switches except the end one which is connected to the wireless devices. You cannot have multiple PoE sources connected to each other.

Hello Steven,

I guess the Cisco switches uses a different standard compared to bullet m5. You need to use an adapter to convert the power to the required standard or an injector as Tom said.

Yes. I guess it can't be connected as Cisco is 48v and bullet is 24v.
