Help troubleshooting 2 SG100 switches

Hello All,

I'm an "advanced" novice at networking and recently have run into an issue at my home office.

All rooms of my house are connected with cat5e Ethernet cable that is home run to a network closet that contains my router and a Cisco SG100-16 switch. One of the runs from that particular switch goes into my home office.  I have 4 devices in the office I need connected, so I purchased a Cisco SG100D-05.  When I connect the 05 in the office, to the 16, I get no connectivity.  However, if I connect any of the other devices in the office to the 16 using the same cable, I have both network and internet connectivity.  I was under the impression that both the 05 and 16 had auto mdi/mdi-x, and I would not need to create a special crossover cable?  Am I mistaken?  Or am I doing something else wrong?

Thanks,

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

what are the LEDs indicating on both ports?  can you also try with different ports to see if this makes any difference? If not MDX/MDIX it could be related to duplex issue...

Regards,

Aleksandra
