SG500-52P x3, 1 Stack - downgrade firmware to upgrade boot image?

Hi everyone

Hoping for some clarification, searching hasn't revealed anything clearly defined.

As titled, 3 SG500 switches in a stack (running in L3 mode), firmware info below

Firmware Version (Active Image): 1.3.5.58
Firmware Version (Non-active): 1.2.7.76
Boot Version: 1.2.0.12

I've read upgrading past v 1.3.5.58 is a no-go without upgrading the boot version. Will I need to downgrade active FW all the way back to  1.2.0.12, then upgrade Boot to 1.2.7.76, then re-upgrade FW to 1.2.7.76 and so-on and so on through each Boot/ FW [1.2.0.97, 1.2.7.76, 1.2.9.44, 1.3.0.59, 1.3.0.62, 1.3.5.58, 1.3.5.58, 1.3.7.18, 1.4.0.88]?

I'll take a backup of running config prior obviously, but  will my settings survive this?

Thanks for the input, I'd really like to not brick these switches!

Update - after re-reading the Cisco support documents and focusing on the section containing the Answer above. I backed up the running config (took some notes - just-in-case), upgraded the boot image to the version included in the 1.3.5.58 firmware download and rebooted the stack.

I then stepped though the 1.4.0.88 boot image upgrade, rebooted (to be sure), upgraded firmware, set active image and rebooted. All appears well. Thanks for the input!

I know this is an old post, but maybe there has been an answer since.

I have an SG500X switch and I for th life of me cannot get it to upgrade the boot version past a very old 1.2.0.12. There is no Boot code on Cisco's site for 1.2.0.97. There is FW but no boot code.

Core-B9-NET#sh ver

Unit SW version Boot version HW version
------------------- ------------------- ------------------- -------------------
1 1.2.0.97 1.2.0.12 V01

Core-B9-NET#sh bootv
Unit Image Filename Version Date Status
---- ----- --------- --------- --------------------- -----------
1 1 image-1 1.3.7.18 12-Jan-2014 18:04:29 Not active
1 2 image-2 1.2.0.97 02-Feb-2012 10:12:46 Active*

Anytime I upgrade the boot version to the next one up 1.3.0.063.rfb it looks like it takes after a "wr mem" and then a "reload". But then if I reboot the switch a second time to make sure it actually took, it reverts back to boot version 1.2.0.12.

I have downloaded a couple copies of the FW and Boot but nothing seems to be working.
