Hi everybody,
i´m using a Cisco SF300 (SRW224G4P) in my network and i´m using Vlan´s.
I´m getting a lot of packet´s loss in the network and the users are experiencing the lack of performance.
There are in total seven switch´s in the network, 6 Cisco SF200 as "access" switch´s and 1 Cisco SF300 as the "Core" switch.
There is almost 170 devices connected to the network, mainly IP cameras, other devices are some DVR´s and NVR´s, one server a some PC´s.
Thing is i´m having packet´s loss, and i found this alarm in the SF300:
2147480831 2012-Jul-06 13:14:45 Warning %IPFFT-W-SFFTREDYELLOW: IP SFFT Table Overflow, aggregated (1)
2147480831 2012-Jul-06 13:14:45 Warning %IPFFT-W-SFFTREDYELLOW: IP SFFT Table Overflow
Some people are saying this switch (SF300) support´s only 100 hosts and that´s why i´m getting this alarm and loosing packets.
But i cant find the host´s limit in the switch specification in any Cisco document.
What do you think on this?
There is a limitation of 100 hosts for this switch?
Thanks in advance!
Carlos

Hi Calavalle, the layer 3 module can only hardware switch 100 before it starts software switching. The switch can support up to 510 IP addresses but anything over 100 will have expected performance degradation.

The SX500 will have the same behavior as the SX300. A 2960 would be better suited for 100-200 users.

Tom, thanks a lot for your fast and accurate answer.
I will "shoot" you a new question to see if you can help me a little bit more:
According to your answer, the performance degradation in the network is important so i want to change the "core" switch for a different equipment more according to the requirements. I have two questions about this:
1- Do you think i have to go to a Catalyst line switch, for example a 2960 like the WS-C2960-24PC-L?
Or is ok/enough to go to an SF500 like the SF500-24P-K9-AR?
2- Do you think it is OK to use a new "core" switch? Or it is maybe possible and technically better to think in use a router for all the VLan´s routing/switching?
Thanks in advance again,
Carlos
