100% CPU usage on a Catalyst 6509 VSS

Hi all

One of my Catalyst 6509 VSS duo has for the last 24 hours been running with 100 % CPU usage:

I am not able to Telnet og SSH to the router, but console cable still works.

Runing IOS is sup-bootdisk:s72033-adventerprisek9-vz.122-33.SXI4.bin

As seen in the "show proc cpu" output inetd.proc, tcp.proc and ios.base takes up almost all of the CPU.

r-log-osls-s24-5-1#sho proc cpu | exclude 0.0%

CPU utilization for five seconds: 100%/31%; one minute: 100%; five minutes: 100%

PID       5Sec    1Min     5Min Process

1         0.1%    0.2%     0.3% kernel

16406    58.3%   61.4%    61.9% ios-base

16427     1.3%    1.2%     1.1% raw_ip.proc

16428    14.9%   15.3%    15.2% inetd.proc

16429    12.7%   12.8%    12.6% tcp.proc

16430     7.7%    7.2%     7.2% udp.proc

16431     2.9%    2.0%     1.9% iprouting.iosproc

16432     1.0%    1.0%     1.0% cdp2.iosproc

r-log-osls-s24-5-1#

The ios-base usage I can understand since the IOS is modular base. But inetd.proc and tcp.proc I cannot understand.

I have cleared all hanging TCP sessions and issued the "undebug all" command but still no progress.

The system have been stable for over 3 years now, and no changes was made to the configuration at the time th CPU usage stared rising.

Thanks in advance

An udate to this issue.

"clear tcp tcb *" got the cpu usage to an acceptable level. But as soon as I try to SSH or Telnet to the router the CPU usage spikes again. And the inetd.proc and the tcp.proc are the processes with increased usage.

Could be an issue with modular code. Similar behavior was seen in this thread:

I would open a TAC case if you didn't already do that.
