2960L SVI issue

AdamW01248

Level 1

I have a 24port 2960-L (running the latest IOS) which being passive cooled fits my requirement well.

I have configured it with a number of VLANs with a SVI on each and enabled routing.

Seemingly at random an SVI stops responding. Unfortunately I was in a hurry to get things working so power cycled the switch which resolved the issue. I'm hopeful next time it occurs (its already happened a number of times) I can get a laptop and console cable to see what's happening. Other than that its working perfectly.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue with the 2960-L series? any hints on where to look for issues?

Is there anything else I shoulld test before i do shutdown/no shutdown and run the commands again?

Hello,

this is an old thread, are you experiencing the exact same problem ? Post the output of:

sh ver

Georg, yes I think that it is the same problem, except that we dont have routing enabled. SVI randomly stops responding, and we have to restart the switch or do a shutdown/no shutdown on the vlan interface to get it working again.

It dont happen that often, we have about a hundred C2960L in our network, and this has happend 10-15 times in a year.

Different switches, some once , a couple of them two times. Different firmware 15.2(7)E0 - E3

You asked "Is there anything else I should test before i do shutdown/no shutdown and run the commands again?" I would say run the commands, verify that the addresses in the arp table, attempt to traceroute to each of the IP addresses in the arp table, check for any log messages, then shut/no shut, and run the commands again. I would hope that we might find something different in the before and after outputs.

I think it has to do something with spanning tree. Yesterday we had problem with a wireless bridge flapping, some nearby switches saw a mac adress on both uplink and downlink (though it is not physically possible), after that three C2960L had lost connection to management IP (SVI Vlan 1).

When we log in to them via console, there is nothing about it in the log and nothing abnormal about spanning tree.
