Hi,
I just ordered a 3560x. I have some concerns about starting to make the x series the standard and wondering if I should return it for the 3560v2.
All of our switches at the moment are 3560s or 3750s with the exception of 1 3750v2.
Are the images the same as the 3560 and 3560v2/3750and 3750v2?
Can 3750x stack with the 3750s and 3750v2? We have some 3750 stacks now.
Are the 3560s, 3750s 10/100/1000 going to be end of life soon?
The price of the 3560s and 3560x are roughly the same so, price wise it doesn't make much of a difference but, is there any disadvantage to me going to the 3560x and 3750x?
The option to upgrade to 10g uplinks is cool but, I also can channel the existing 4g uplinks on the 3560 and 3750 which will probably suffice for a fews I would think, maybe not?
sorry for all the questions.
Thanks for any guidance, Pat.

Ankur,
I understand that 3560 software cannot be used on 3750 switch and vice-versa but, my question is, and I think you answered it, can I use the plain 3560 software on the 3560x switch and vice-versa, and can I use the plain 3750 software on the 3750x switch and vice-versa?
And I think you say that there might not be complete parity?
Sorry for this.

Pat,you can't use 3560 image on 3560x..It needs 3560e image.Similarly for 3750 and 3750 X

I would also choose the X series of 3560/3750
but there is something you should be wary of , they normally come with a universal software-- if you are just using for switching and basic routing -- you should be okay , but if you want to use it to do complex layer 3 routing ie , multicast routing etc , you will need ipservices license and to activate to this requires an activation key , similar to ASA firewall or the newer routers like 2911 etc
and this is very very expensive
i recieved a quote the other day to activate my 3750X and it was around £4k pounds.

Rob,
I ordered the ipbase image so, I guess we can do basic routing, don't know if we will ever get to that point but.... about multicasting. I've passed the SWITCH exam and am just starting to study multicasting for my upcoming ROUTE exam so, I don't have a real good understanding of it. Is routing neccessary at the access layer to do multicasting? Couldn't this be done by the Core switches/routers?
thanks, Pat

It really depends on what you are doing in multicasting.ipbase should be good enough.
