I am writing a new config to my 3750G switch using Putty and a serial cable. When the config has finished loading I get a "Configured from console by console" message. I then end the config load by entering Ctrl Z and am returned to the privileged mode prompt. I then enter "Write" and receive the message building configuration [OK] . If I then try show run or startup I see the old config is still there. What am I doing wrong?

Something is being written to the "config.text" file because the time stamp is different.
What is "newconfig.text"?

- When you try to save the config to startup-config, issue show logging just after doing that , look for additional info's if any.

posting this to close this question:
When deleting the startup-config any attempt to show it results in a no startup-config message. I assumed the same was true of the running-config and was confusing the default running configuration with my configuration.
Lesson learned.
