4500 and VIP Redundancy

Hello,

I need help from experts to config a solution with 2x 4506 and what I think is called in Cisco, VIP Redundancy.

First:

My 2x 4506 are with IP Base version software, same hardware, and same IOS version, but I need to know if my switchs meet the requirements needed for VIP Redundancy. Can't find what are those requirements.

Do I need enterprise version of IOS?

Second:

The solution that I need to implement is to continue to have vlan routing, even if one of the 4500 goes down, so, I think I don't need VSS, and VIP is sufficient, for my need.

Can anyone confirm my thoughts?

Third:

After some reading of the config, I have several options:

I need to create a circuit for every vlan that I require routing, right?

Hi,

Not sure exactly what you mean by "VIP Redundancy". Do you mean HSRP or VRRP redundancy?

HSRP or VRRP will work fine to provide redundancy for end devices.

have a look at this document for examples:
