I need to factory default a pair of 4500 switches in VSS mode.
This is how I plan to do it.
1. on switch 1 execute redundancy force-switchover
2. write erase on the switch 2 and reload
3. this should failover to switch 1
4. write erase in switch 1
Is there anything I missed? Should I remove
Maybe I should do a switch convert mode stand-alone on both switches and then do a write erase on both?

1. Configure the config-registry to 0x2101. Reboot the entire chassis.
2. Once the chassis reboot, both cards should boot up without reading the startup-config file.
3. Go into configuration mode and change the config-registry to 0x2102.
4. Exit configuration mode and erase the configuration using the command "wr erase".
5. Don't forget to delete the VLAN.dat file.

Dear Leo,
I tried setting the switch to factory reset, however i could see the VSS config file saved in the bootflash, i deleted the same, however switch started again in VSS mode, i had to convert it into standalone mode for the switch to exit from VSS

You have to convert the chassis to stand-alone mode before erasing the configs, if not the all the VSS config/changes will stay.
