4500 WS-X46xx Performance (3 Gbps per port group)

The data sheet for the WS-X4648-RJ45V+E lists its performance as:-

● 24 gigabits per-slot capacity

● Bandwidth is allocated across eight 6-port groups, providing 3 Gbps per port group (2:1)

With 4500 centralised switching, how is the quoted 3 Gbps per port group viewed where traffic is all local to the same port group?

For example for the first group of ports on the line card, port 1 through to port 6 inclusive, If port 1 is sourcing 1Gbps of traffic that is sinking only into port 2 - is that counted as: -

  • 1Gbps (i.e. the flow total) or
  • 2Gbps (i.e. the in port + out port total)

thanks,

Sez
