Hello,
I found the table in cisco docs and I was wondering if based on that, we could install IOS fimware image in stead of IOS XE firmware image. Could someone help me please ?
Here is the table:
Cisco IOS XE Version - Cisco IOS Version
03.3.0SG | 15.1(1)SG |
03.3.1SG | 15.1(1)SG1 |
03.4.0SG | 15.1(2)SG |
03.5.0E | 15.2(1)E |
03.6.0E | 15.2(2)E |
03.7.0E | 15.2(3)E |
Thanks

No, the switch will not read the IOS firmware and boot into ROMMON.

Hi,
for 4500x you need IOS XE. Here is the latest version
cat4500e-universal.SPA.03.11.03a.E.152-7.E3a.bin

as per the docs "3.11.3aE MD is the Gold image, make sure you read the release notes and understand caveats.

Hi Leo Laohoo,
I need to upgrade the cisco switch 4510 with SUP 7-E from Ciso IOS XE cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.06.04.E.152-2.E4.bin and ROMM 15.0(1r)SG5 to the latest IOS XE cat4500e-universal.SPA.03.11.03a.E.152-7.E3a.bin. My question is that can I upgrade the ROMMON 15.0(1r)SG15 and the IOS XE cat4500e-universal.SPA.03.11.03a.E.152-7.E3a.bin at the same time ?
Is there any caveats or potential error if I use ROMMON 15.0(1r)SG15 and cat4500e-universal.SPA.03.11.03a.E.152-7.E3a.bin together ?
Thank you
Regards,

ROMMON upgrade and IOS-XE upgrade can be done in one reboot.
Instructions can be found HERE.
It is very important not get into the "hype": ISSU or FSU/eFSU do not work all the time.
And when ISSU or FSU/eFSU do not work, it is a very long, sad and a quiet drive to the site. At least, no one can hear you scream.

Hi Leo Laohoo
Thanks for the link, I followed the link and I upgraded the switch successful,
However, when the switch 4510 came up, it had module 9 faulty, I tried to soft reset the module 9 , but it still shows faulty.
I used the command "show diagnostic result module 9 test <tid> detail" and it showed this information,
1) linecard-online-diag ------------> F
Error code ------------------> 4 (DIAG_PARTIAL_FAILURE)
Total run count -------------> 1
Last test testing type ------> n/a
Last test execution time ----> Feb 01 2022 21:18:46
First test failure time -----> Feb 01 2022 21:18:46
Last test failure time ------> Feb 01 2022 21:18:46
Last test pass time ---------> n/a
Total failure count ---------> 1
Consecutive failure count ---> 1
Could you please help how to troubleshoot this case? What is the error code 4 ?
Thank you

Re-seat the module and carefully look at the logs during the line card insert. If there is a problem, it will show up there.

Hi Leo Laohoo,
I upgraded the Cisco IOS XE cat4500e-universal.SPA.03.11.03a.E.152-7.E3a.bin successful, however, I couldn't telnet to the switch, so I needed to console to the switch to re-configure " transport input telnet" , but I couldn't add "transport input ssh" again,
One senior engineer said that I need to upgrade the version cat4500e-universal.SPA.03.11.03a.E.152-7.E3a.bin to fix this issue,
Could you please give me some advice?
is there any difference between universal and universalk9 ?
Thank you

That filename does not support SSH.
The firmware that supports SSH is "cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.11.03a.E.152-7.E3a.bin" -- Notice the "k9"?
IOS-XE version 3.11.3a was released on 22 September 2020. The last-and-final firmware release is 3.11.5 on 17 September 2021.
Have a look at Security Advisories That Affect 3.11.3a Release.
