4500X - Virual Switch Stack Fail-over Not Working

Hi,

I am a CCNA (Working on the CCNP very soon when I get back from my holidays) so I am not a total idiot, however I haven't worked with Virtual Stacking yet. This configuration wasn't setup by me.

We have 2 x Cisco 4500X in a Virtual Stack. When the Primary / Active switch goes offline (no 1) the standby does takes over (no 2), however no data is being transmitted in the network. As a result everything goes down. Once Switch 1 back on-line I reload switch 2 to force number 1 to be primary and everything works fine.

I am getting error timer expired messages when running Show Switch Virtual Role (seen below)

WA-CORE01#sh switch virtual role

Executing the command on VSS member switch role = VSS Active, id = 1

My recommendation is to upgrade to 3.6.X and try using Easy VSS.

NOTE:  And don't forget to upgrade the bootstrap/ROMmon.
