4900M migration to 40G?

bbb bbb

hello guys,

we have 4900M  distribution switches with 10G links connecting to our core switch 6500.we are looking to upgrade our links to 40G. so this means the core switch will be replace by a nexus 7000 switch that can cater 40G.. Question: Can we use a breakout fiber cable from nexus (40G link) to 4900M (4x10G) multiple links?see attached imge

since 4900M does not support 40G connectivity.

Hello Leo,

we dont have the cable as of now as we are still in planning stage in determining what are the things we need to consider in upgrading our network environment from 10GE to 40GE.

since 4900M does not support 40GE module, is there any design that the image i attached will be feasible?

I don't think so.  4900M doesn't support breakout cables I think.

thank you for your responses Leo.

i just found out now that breakout cables are supported for IOS 15.2(2) Ex which includes additional hardware feature. but only for QSFP-4SFP10G-CU1M, QSFP-4SFP10G-CU3M, QSFP-4SFP10G-CU5M. fiber cable not mentioned. Not applicable to our environment where our distribution switch is >100m away from core switch
