Hi !

We were tried to apply the QOS for the Voice traffic in 6500 SVI Interface & getting the error as "MQC features are not supported in output direction for this interface" .

This have SUP-720 and running 12.2 IOS Version.

What it requires to support the prioirty queue for Voice ?

Sample QOS  Configuration

!

Policy Map VOIP

    Class REALTIME

      priority percent 30

!

Interface vlan 10

Service-policy output VOIP

Thanks in Advance !!!

Hi,

Both the 6500 and 6800 support service policy in input direction.

This link say it is supported in output direction if you have PFC3, but I have seen the same thing with the 6800 series.

At this point, the QoS policy defined in the policy map still has not taken effect. After you configure a policy map, you must apply it to an interface for it to affect traffic. You use the service-policy command to apply the policy map. Remember that an input service policy can be applied to either a port or to VLAN interfaces, but that an output service policy can only be applied to VLAN interfaces (only the PFC3 supports output policies). In this example, you apply the policy as an input service-policy to each interface that has a PC and IP phone attached. This example uses port-based QoS, which is the default for Ethernet ports.

Hi Reza & Joseph,

Thanks for your reply. PFC3B card is available in this switch. What are the other posiiabilites of getting this error.

As per our design this is the core switch connecting with layer 2 cloud.Phsyical interfaces are configured as trunk interface.

6500 sup720 ports have hardware egress queues.  Features and number of egress queues vary per line card (or supervisor).

Basically, depending on configuration, frames/packets with QoS tags will go to specific egress queues and obtain different treatment.  So, you insure your VoIP packets are classified and directed to an egress queue that provides them the service you intend.

What about using interface hardware egress queues?
